Objectives:
•Understand the concept of win-win
• Analyze various situations from a win-win perspective
•Develop a personal commitment to thinking win-win.
What is Win-Win?
Win-win according to Covey:
• Isn’t about being nice
• Isn’t a quick fix
• Is a character-based code for human interaction and
collaboration.
Table talk…Think about a time when you had to
be nice and tough at the same time? What was
the situation? How were you proactive? What
was the end result?
What does it mean?
• Requires you to be nice and be tough- not one or the
other.
• Requires a balance between courage and consideration.
• Requires empathy and confidence.
• Requires consideration/sensitivity and courage.
What are the results?
• Integrity – sticking with true feelings, values, commitments
•Maturity – expressing ideas and feelings with courage and
consideration for others’ ideas and feelings.
•Abundance mentality – believing there is plenty for
everyone.
Teacher – Student Interaction
Andrew is having a bad day. It started from the minute he walked into your classroom this
morning. He is usually very compliant and an average student. However, today he is balking at
completing his writing assignment. You need this assessment to help him prepare for
statewide testing next week. What are some win-win strategies you can employ that will
motivate Andrew to complete the task?
