Wilson Park for an hour for the aim of raising money!

The least said about this game the better. The team just couldn't find any rhythm against a
Falcons team that was solid from end-to-end. For some reason our normally solid defense was
all at sea and the Falcons took an early lead with less than 5 minutes gone. To their credit the
Gunners fought back with Lewis "Beckham" Barter-Konecny scoring from another great free kick
from just outside the box to equalise. However the Falcons scored again before half-time and
while we were, in theory, still in the game at 1-2 down at half-time it was clear it just wasn't to
be our day. We fought had in the second half but to no avail, in the end the Falcons put another
couple of goals away to finish deserved 4-1 winners. So unfortunately our Knock-Out heroics
from last year were not to be repeated. Maybe next year.

St Columbas Castle Hill

The U8’s were again under-strength with only 8 players but luckily St Columbas were worse off
with only 7. It was a perfect day for soccer. Both teams started slowly to prod each others
defences. Alex, Ruben and Sylvan looked threatening from the start with several attempts on
goal each. Dante pushing up from midfield broke the deadlock after 10 mins with a great goal
setup with good passing and teamwork. 1-0. Alex soon made it 2-0 from a shot from outside the
box that beat the keeper. Thomas was forced to make some important saves but his defence of
Tyler and Kevin held strong and managed to clear the ball each time. Emma was putting in some
great effort in midfield and helped start the move that lead to Ruben’s first goal. 3-0. Half time
gave the troops a well earned breather and Thomas was replaced in goal by Vincent to make use
of his fresh legs. Tyler pushed up into the attack and it paid dividends immediately with well
taken goal. 4-0. Thomas and Emma were unlucky not to get on the score sheet but it was Ruben
who made the game sure by completing his hatrick with 2 more well taken goals. 6-0. We also
had a goal by Sylvan ruled out for offside and any number of close calls so it could have been a
much bigger score line. Final score was 6-0 and man of the match was shared between Ruben,
Emma and Thomas. Great work guys.

The team was fired up for a good game against Carlingford having lost our previous encounter
under unlucky circumstances. The crowd didn't have to wait long to start cheering as we
executed clinically from the kick-off to set-up a goal for Greg Melnyk and a 1-0 lead with less
than a minute on the clock. At this stage it looked like the score could be anything and with
everyone playing well it seemed inevitable that we would score again soon. However a
combination of plucky Carlingford defense and some missed chances meant that, while our
defense was hardly troubled, we failed to add to the score before half time. The second half was
a similar story, with a number of missed chances but generally dominating play. Cameron in
particular was unlucky to stumble with an open goal in front of him. Our second goal game from
a fantastic free kick from just outside the box from Lewis which sailed high into the corner of the
goal - untouched by anyone. Lewis was strong in defense and Breanna continues to improve. A
good solid victory, 2-0.

I am now officially in awe at what this team can do. What a sensational performance against the
top of the table team, who had lost only 1 game before this.
All looked good at the start, with players on both sides full of running after the wet weather
disruptions. But after only a couple of minutes we lost Ahmed to an unlucky injury, especially
disappointing as he has been in very good form. With no reserves that meant 10 Gunners
against a full strength Demons with 3 reserves. Play went end to end in an exciting match, with
our defence and ‘keeper Johan very busy but looking solid.
Johnny K carved them up repeatedly down the right and a cross to Ben Spencer produced a great
first goal. The two put on a repeat performance soon after for a 2-0 lead that clearly stunned the
Demons. Ben Adams on the other wing had a great battle with his opponents, and was
dangerous all game. The mid fielders contested tirelessly, effectively disrupting the Demons
game.
The second half was nail-biting as the Demons proved why they are one of the best teams. There
are two reasons that we toughed it out to win from here – an enormous effort and will to win
from the whole team, and Johan, who pulled out a ‘keeper’s game from the very top shelf when
we really needed it. A brilliant diving save to the right was memorable, he cleared the lines
several times and was rock solid. It took a superb curling strike from the goal line for the Demons
to eventually get one past for a 2-1 score line.
With the game on a knife edge, we didn’t need any more drama but we got it when Liam was
penalised for shirt pulling in the box. A great effort to chase back in defence, but remember
everyone that you must keep your hands down in the penalty area. The penalty was fair but
most observers felt the immediate red card sending off was harsh. So we were down to 9 players
with more than 15 minutes to go, and a penalty to deal with. Surely Johan had done enough
already? No way! A strong save just capped off a player of the match performance and no doubt
lifted everyone for a huge effort to tough it out for our best win of the year.
MVP was Johan for a standout performance. A special mention too for Jonno Spencer who leads
the side very well every week and had another great captain’s game.

1. If for any reason your child is unable to play or attend training you MUST inform your coach or manager.
2. If you have questions regarding your team, ask your manager. If you have any questions regarding
administrations, ask the club’s secretary.
3. If it is raining on a Saturday morning call the team manager to see if the game is on. Most often games will
still be on so do not just stay at home; you will be letting your child's team down!

It’s raining, it’s Saturday! Is the game on? Your manager will know if the game is on, give them a call. Very
rarely is a decision made before Friday evening

It’s raining and it’s training tonight! Is training on? Managers/coaches call Auburn council to see if ground is
closed. You cannot train if the ground is closed, even if it’s not raining!! Parents and players call the manager
4. Please assist the coach and manager; they are working unpaid for your child. There may be nets to put up or
pull down, corner posts to stick in, players to be picked up (particularly if a parent has more than one child
playing in different teams) or shirts to wash.
5. This club and the NSW Churches Football Association have high expectations of our parents and players.
Please support our teams, but no abuse of players or officials will be tolerated and bans or fines could result.
