Unstfest Metal Detecting Rally
Meet at Baltasound Marina at 9am – 9:30am for registration.
This is a fun Metal Detect Rally that is taking place over 2 days – Saturday 15th July & Sunday 16th July 2017. The
rally will run from 9am – 4pm both days. PRICE - £5 EACH DAY.
We ask you wear suitable clothing/footwear when taking part and take your own water/snacks and lunch. Meet at
Baltasound Marina where there will be a bus provided to take you to the destination for that day. There will be a
marked out area for detecting on with marshals to keep you right or if you have any questions through-out the day.
The bus will then take you back to the Baltasound Marina at 4pm.
Unstfest has arranged for representatives from the Shetland Museum to come up and have a look at any findings and
supply more information about them. Any findings will be subject to current Scottish Legislations regarding metal
detecting. If there is any findings that are kept by state, the money received will be shared 50/50 with land owner.

INFORMATION PAGE
GETTING TO UNST:
From the mainland of Scotland (Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh) or from Orkney you can fly through Flybe to Sumburgh Airport.
Another way to get from the Scottish mainland/Orkney is to get the overnight Northlink Ferry. This will bring you into Shetlands
main town, Lerwick.
BUS from Sumburgh/Lerwick
From Sumburgh you will have to catch a bus to Lerwick to get any island buses to Unst.
8AM @ The Shetland Hotel bus stop: This service connects with Northlink Arrivals from Aberdeen. The bus stop is
across the road from the Northlink Ferry Terminal at the Shetland Hotel. This bus will take you to Toft (First island ferry) which
you will then walk on and get on a bus at the other side (Ulsta) which will take you through Yell to Gutcher, where you get onto
the Unst bus.
2:30PM @ Viking Bus Station: The Viking Bus Station is in central Lerwick. This bus will take you right through to
Gutcher. You will then get on the Unst bus.
There is a limited Bus service available throughout the island. Contact P&T Coaches on 01957 711666 for more information.
There is car hire from Sumburgh Airport or car hire on the island.
USING THE INTER-ISLAND FERRIES:
From the mainland of Shetland you will have to get 2 ferries to Unst.
1st Ferry: Toft – Ulsta
2nd Ferry: Gutcher – Belmont

There is a charge to go into the island which you can pay by cash – NO CARD PAYMENTS.
PLACES TO STAY:
Camping – Unstfest has organised fields suitable for camping at the Baltasound Marina - £5 a tent per night. There is shower and
toilet facilities available with a short walk to the Baltasound Hotel/Bar and local shops.
Gardiesfauld Youth Hostel is based in Uyeasound. They have camping facilities, campervan power points along with hostel

Saxa Vord Resort is based in Haroldswick. This has self-catering houses along with hostel rooms. There is a restaurant and bar in
this resort as well. They also have campervan parking with toilet/shower facilities but they don’t have any power points. For more

Baltasound Hotel offers a selection of different rooms inside the hotel along with small chalets outside. There is a restaurant and

Saxa Vord Resort – This is open from 6pm – 9pm Monday to Saturday. On Sunday it is open from 12noon to 4pm for Sunday

Baltasound Hotel Restaurant – Pre-booking is essentials, please contact them on 01957 711334. Times/days vary due to the
amount of residence at the Hotel.
As the metal detecting rally is on during Unstfest we will also be hold evening meals through-out the weekend.
