Die-Cutting Machine Congratulations on purchasing the MARK 5 Die-Cutting Machine made especially for educators! We trust you will be pleased with the time and money you’ll save cutting shapes for curriculum-based materials, bulletin boards and crafts. Proper use and care of the machine will yield a lifetime of efficient cutting. Setting Up Your MARK 5 Machine How to Use the MARK 5 Machine Step 1: Place die FOAM SIDE UP completely in tray, slightly angling the die. Place paper or material on top of the die, desired side down. Step 2: Push die and tray until they meet roller. Turn handle in the direction you want the die to go through the machine. Remove die-cut shape and extra material. Place new material on top of die and roll through the machine in opposite direction. The box will include one MARK 5 Machine and one die tray. No tools are required for assembly. Remove machine from shipping carton and place it on a flat, sturdy, non-skid surface. Lower the sides of the machine and place the die tray on the rollers. You’re ready to start cutting. Materials You Can Cut The MARK 5 Machine and steel-rule dies cut anything you can cut with scissors — only faster and easier. The number of layers depends on the material as well as the size and complexity of the die design. It is best to start with fewer layers and then add layers to test cutting performance. Here are some materials you can cut with the recommended maximum layers: • Construction paper - 8 • Laminated paper - 4 Compatible Dies The 12" cutting width fits AccuCut dies up to super jumbo (10" x 15"). The MARK 5 machine is also compatible with Ellison SureCut and ClearCrop dies that will fit in the 115/8" x 151/4" tray. The machine is not recommended for dies with crease blade for score lines or for cutting shapes for quilting, note cards, bags or boxes due to slight skewing of material during cutting. • Chipboard - 1 • Fabric/Felt - 6 • Flexible magnet - 2 • Poly foam - 2 • Sandpaper - 6 • Sponge - 1 • Tag board - 3 • Vinyl - 2 ©2017 AccuCut 8843 S. 137th Circle Omaha, NE 68138 Toll-Free Tel 800-288-1670 Tel 402-934-1070 Fax 402-939-0304 E-Mail info @ accucut.com AccuCut.com Item AC5500I Die-Cutting Machine MARK 5 Machine Tips With proper use and maintenance your MARK 5 Machine will be an investment you can depend on for decades. • Place desired side of material face down on the die. • To easily engage die and paper under roller, position the die so a corner is pointed toward the roller. • For best results, cut with die blades running under the roller at an angle, so they cut like scissors. Die blades should not be parallel to the roller. • To extend the life of dies, keep scraps of paper, chipboard and other material out of die tray. • If you see steel rule working its way out of the back of a die this is caused by cutting thick materials or from paper or other material being under the die when cutting. To repair the die, lay the die foam side down on a towel or other surface and use a rubber mallet to gently pound the blade back into the die. System Maintenance The machine’s roller and die tray will need to be replaced approximately once a year depending on use. We recommend replacing these items at the same time. • You will notice that a new roller, found under the steel safety guard, is black. As the machine is used, the steel-rule blades in the dies cut into the roller. The roller wears down with use and needs to be replaced when the roller turns white and cutting performance is diminished. • The die tray also affects cutting performance and needs to be replaced with use—dies and materials being cut put pressure on the tray, causing it to bow. Replace your tray when cutting performance is diminished, when you lay the tray on a table and it does not lay flat or if tray center bows in either direction. You may even hear a “popping” noise while cutting. To extend life of tray, move dies to different locations so one corner is always touching a side of the tray. Cleaning and Storage Clean the MARK 5 Machine with a slightly damp cloth only. Do not use abrasive cleaners on the machine. Fold up sides when machine is not in use for easy storage or to provide more room to work.
