Committee Meeting
Wednesday January 9th 2013
Daisy Hill Cricket Club
Attendees: Anju Lilley / Howard Newton / Janet Hartley / Kath Sumner / Paul Sumner
Apologies: JP Thompson / Neil Hart
Welcome from Chair
Anju – Chair
Plan for 2013
 Push to get the lease. Anju to chase solicitor in the next couple of days as it is still “sat
on her desk”.
 Once signed by relevant officers of the club we need to look at fencing off the Den which will eat up a considerable amount of funds.
 Therefore – a Bag Pack was suggested at Sainsbury’s for Valentines weekend to be
completed by all teams.
 The 12’s has now folded which was inevitable unfortunately due to the dwindling
numbers. We may get an influx of new players at that age group but we feel this is
unlikely. All players have found respective teams to go to and we wish them well.
 At the previous meeting there was a discussion regarding the Under 7’s but we have
had no feedback on the situation and there was no representative from that team to
clarify.
 All other teams seem to be doing well and growing in size – right up to the Under 16’s,
so as a club we seem to be doing something right!!
 Barla Insurance – Janet is going to clarify as the Open Age is not included. She is also
going to contact the New Spring Lions as they no longer use our facilities so we will
look at removing them.
The committee as a whole would like to thank all parents and players for their
continuing support. We don’t have any training in the positions we volunteer for and
we do what we do because we want to, always with the children’s best intentions to
heart. If any parents would like to become more involved or have any issues with what
we do then please come to any committee meeting and we will happily discuss your
concerns openly and freely.
Janet – Treasurer
 Presentations – All 3 presentations did particularly well and the monies raised covered
all costs (food / DJ / santa’s gifts / trophies ) with approx £160.00 left over to go
towards club funds. We are aware of the issue with food at the youngest age groups’
evening but unfortunately that was due to unforeseen circumstances / traffic and the
supplier did apologise.
 New registrations for the forthcoming season – each child is to pay £5.00 registration
fee to their coach / team manager
Paul – Child Protection Officer
 Need to actively discourage the use of “energy” drinks (this was also reinforced by
Anju). These types of drinks give the children a “kick” but then can bring them down
and the majority of people don’t realise exactly what it is they are drinking; we need to
look at promoting healthy eating /drinking via the coaches, team managers and
parents. It has been agreed that this will be highlighted at the next coaches meeting.
 Facebook Groups for teams – As a safeguarding issue they need to be accessible and
monitored by a safeguarding / welfare officer for transparency reasons. This is
something that has been put in place by the RFL.
 CRB – now called a DBS – and we need to actively get all parents / helpers registered
asap. The RFL would ideally like any person applying for a DRB to be interviewed by
Club Officials and if possible a personal reference.
 Need to have a database of all “officials” for each team - coaches / team managers /
first aiders / touch line managers etc so we can see who needs what (ie first aiders
qualifications) and that all hold a DBS. Paul will arrange this and contact the coaches/
team managers for each team.
AOB
Open Age – Now changed to a summer season and it may be necessary to look for alternative
post match hospitality as the fixtures will clash with the Cricket. By moving to Summer it gives
them more stability and confirms them in a league with set fixtures. The team, as a whole is self
sufficient other than the club fees.
Coaching in Schools – At the moment we have a coach “in situ” in St James and both seem
happy to continue. We have an additional coach who maybe interested and he will look at
shadowing the current coach while he learns the ropes. If there are any other coaches that can
realistically devote a set amount of time to go into schools then we will do all to support them.
Half terms skills day – John Duffy has mentioned that he would be happy to hold a “day”
(10:30 – 3ish??) over half term . We agreed a nominal charge of £1.00 as this would cover the
snacks for the children .
Next Meeting – Wednesday 20 February
