Spring Term learning newsletter

Spring Term Newsletter.
Unicorn Class.
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you have all had a wonderful holiday and I would like to take
this opportunity to wish you all a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous
New Year. Once again, we have another busy, exciting term ahead
full of wonderful new learning experiences.
We have already experienced our stunning starter, “Storms and
Shipwrecks”. We found a treasure chest and some clues inside,
which led us to think it belonged to a pirate. The pirate soon told us our new topic!
Over the next few weeks we will be learning all about the lives of pirates and their ships,
leading onto light houses and famous shipwrecks. We are all very excited about our new
topic!
Please see the curriculum overview attached to gives you a clear understanding of what the
children will be learning over the course of this term. I hope you find the information useful.
PE
PE lessons will now be on a Monday and Thursday. All items of clothing/shoes must be clearly
named. No jewellery can be worn for PE and long hair should be tied back. Please ensure that
your child has their PE kit in school.
Reading, Writing and Spelling
We are continuing with our drive for reading for enjoyment and therefore reading at home is
still very important and forms part of the children’s literacy homework. Please support your
child with their reading by reading regularly; at least three times a week.
Our focus this term will be on handwriting, and we would appreciate any extra practice that
the children can do at home.
As part of our new spelling scheme, we are encouraging the children to spell words out loud.
Please see the attached sheet of words that we will be continuing to practice with the
children. Please can you also practice and encourage the children to spell these at home.
Homework
The homework for this term will be to create a pirate maths game! Children can use a game
already known and re-create it into a pirate version, eg. Snakes and ladders. Alternatively
children can invent their own new pirate game. Children must write the rules for the game
and be able to explain how to play.
Homework due on the Wednesday
16th March
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries or concerns.
Thank you for your continued support.
