Riverview High School
Riverview High is a four-year (grades 9-12) comprehensive high school located on 51 acres in Sarasota, Florida. The
present population of this community is approximately 356,000. The current Riverview High population is 2500 students.
Graduates of 2008 number 547: 58% continued their education at a 4 year college, 27% attended a Community College,
2% attended a technical school and 2% joined the armed services. The International Baccalaureate Class of 2008
numbered 99 with 100% continuing with their education.
International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum is like no other in the United States. We belong to an international
organization (ibo.org) whose membership includes approximately 2401 (1432 DP) authorized schools in 129 countries.
The IB offers teacher training, sets curricula, conducts strenuous examinations, and offers a world-class credential to
talented high school graduates.
Accreditation
Riverview High School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Florida Sate
Department of Education. The school is a permanent member of the College Entrance Examination Board and the
College Scholarship Service Council.
Grading
Letter and numerical grades based on the following scale: A=90-100; B=80-89; C=70-79; D=60-69
IB Student Profile
Most students apply in grade 8 for admission to Pre-IB grade 9. Admission requirements include:
1. Final grades (A or B) for English, Math, Science & Social Studies for previous grade & first semester of
current grade
2. Standardized test scores 90% percentile (stanine 7-9)
3. Three teacher recommendations
Students must maintain rigorous academic and moral standards in order to remain in the program.
Higher Level IB Courses offered: English, French, German, Spanish, Economics, History of the Americas,
Biology, Chemistry, Theatre Arts, Visual Arts, Music, and Dance
Standard Level IB Courses offered: French, German, Spanish, Economics, Biology, Chemistry,
Mathematics, Math Studies, I.T.G.S., Visual Arts, and Music
AP courses offered: Art History, Art Drawing Portfolio, English Literature, English Composition, Statistics,
Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Macro Economics, European History, World History, U.S. History, Physics C
(Mech), Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, and Spanish.
