ROKU FAQs
Will Roku work with my TV?
Most Roku players require an HDTV with HDMI® input to deliver stunning HD video.
Have an older TV without HDMI** ports? We have you covered. The Roku 1 is perfect for older TVs. Or consider
other Roku player models for your HDTV.
**If your TV does not have an HDMI port, you may also purchase a converter (RCA to HDMI) from an electronics
or online retailer in order to make your TV compatible with your Roku device.
What do I need to set it up?
Setting up your Roku player requires that you have a broadband internet connection, a wireless router, power, and
an HDTV. Our guided set up will walk you through updating and installing channels. You should be up and streaming in no time flat.
Are there any charges or monthly fees?
Purchasing your Roku player is a one-time charge. There are no monthly fees to use your Roku player, and many
Roku channels offer you high-quality entertainment for free. Depending on which channels you want to watch,
on-demand or subscription fees may apply, while other channels may require authentication.
For example, if you’re new to Netflix and want access to thousands of movies and TV shows, you’ll need a Netflix
subscription plan. If you’re already a Netflix customer, you can start watching right away!
Do I need a Roku player for each TV in my house?
Roku players are designed to work with one TV at a time. Although you can move it between TVs as needed, we
recommend getting a Roku player for additional TVs that you want to watch on.
Does the Roku player download or record movies and TV shows?
The Roku player does not download or record movies, TV shows, other videos or songs. Instead, Roku streams
content from the web, generally starting playback in 30 seconds or less. All Roku players have internal flash storage. However, it is used to store system files and channel applications, not media.
Can I use Roku without a subscription to cable provider?
Yes! You don’t need to have a subscription to a cable provider to use Roku. Many Roku channels offer you
high-quality entertainment for free. However, depending on which channels you want to watch, on-demand or
subscription fees may apply.
Is a Roku account free?
A Roku account is free. You will be asked to place a payment method on file during the account creation process to
provide you the convenience of making purchases from your TV. Your Roku account is safe and secure, and you will
only be charged if you choose to make a purchase. Your Roku account will let you access the Roku Channel Store,
which has numerous channels to select from, many at no additional charge.
Do I need more than one Roku account?
If you have more than one Roku player in your home, linking multiple players to your Roku account ensures that
all of your installed channels are synced with all of your Roku players.
If you have multiple members in your household who want different channels on their respective Roku players,
you can link each player to a different Roku account, such as one account for the kid’s room, and one account for
the parents in the living room.
Subscription channels, such as Netflix can be used across different Roku players, even though they are linked to
different Roku accounts.
Each Roku player may only be linked to one Roku account at a time.
