Connections5.1 The student will demonstrate proficiency in movement skills and skill combinations in complex movement activities: a.) Perform complex educational gymnastic sequences including travel, roll, balance, and weight transfer with smooth transition and changes of direction, speed and flow. Students will practice the three-step approach while saying the cues to their partner, tossing the ball under-hand back and forth. 5.2 The student will understand and apply movement principles and concepts in complex movement activities. b.) Apply principles of accuracy, force and follow through when projecting objects. Students will practice their ability to under-hand throw to their partner from a certain distance and then in a group setting. NASPE Standards Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings. ContextStudents will have learned how to successfully perform an under-hand throw. They will have learned the cues that go with the three-step approach. The students will fully understand and be able to do the three-step approach and be able to build onto it by combining grip, proper form and aim of the under-hand throw. The lesson will begin with students practicing the three-step approach and then as a class get in a circle and play a juggling game where they will have to pass around the circle with a max of 3 balls at a time. AdaptationsA possible adaption would be with Megan who has a torn ACL. She may have a harder time stepping when throwing. Add as many as 3 balls to the circle and see how long they can keep them going. -students will practice throwing to different targets, using different amounts of force. As students improve more balls will be added to the circle with a maximum of 3. Students will go back to where the class began in front of the teacher. ClosureCan someone demonstrate the three-step approach? -What are the cues? What do you always do before you throw to someone? Where should your fingers be pointing at the end of your throw? Student AssessmentAt the end of class have students raise their hand with how comfortable they are with todays skill. Hand fully raised=very comfortable.
