13th October 2014 Dear Parents/Carers and children, Reading We

13th October 2014
Dear Parents/Carers and children,
Reading
We have now had 2 weeks of ERIC and ERICA time in school (Everyone Reading In Class and
Everyone Reading In Class Altogether). The children and teachers are all enjoying this start to the
day. Thank you to those of you who have offered to help in class, we would like to start this after
half term. Please speak to the teacher where you have volunteered your help.
Scarecrow Festival
After much planning our scarecrow festival has finally arrived! I introduced the children to Eric and
Erica, my 2 scarecrows, in collective worship this morning and some of them were very pleased to
tell me about the scarecrows they have been making.
Please bring your scarecrows to the nature area from 8.30am on Wednesday morning. Mr Parkin
and Mrs Nutting will be there to receive them.
Harvest Festival
Harvest Festival will be at 9.05am on Friday in the school hall. This year we are asking for donations
towards our chosen charity rather than actual food items. We will be charging £1 to visit our
scarecrows and this will be given to Unicef to help people who are hungry and who do not have all
the things we are so fortunate to have. We will also accept donations on Friday morning after our
Harvest Festival.
Football Tournament
Well done to the Year 5 and 6 football team who represented the school and played very well in the
tournament at Oakbank School last week. They came 2nd to Oakworth Primary School and will now
go through to the finals in November. Last week was a tricky week in school with lots of staff illness
and I am very grateful to Mr Thurlby and Miss Auty who organised the teams and transport and Mrs
Leng who accompanied the children to the tournament at short notice.
Netball Tournament
Well done to the girls who played in the under 11s netball tournament at Holy Family School. They
also played very well with one win by default and one win 11:0. Thank you to Miss Hodgson and
Miss Mitchell for accompanying the team.
Travelling Book Fair
The book fair will be open after school from 3.15-3.45pm starting tomorrow and then every day until
next Monday.
Friends of Oxenhope School
The Friends held their AGM last week, thank you to everyone who supported. They presented us
with a variety of construction sets for use in school and we said thank you in celebration assembly
on Friday.
