1. What is Kids’ Chance of North Carolina, Inc?
A 501 (c) 3, nonprofit corporation developed in association with insurers, employers, attorneys, labor, medical and rehabilitation
groups. The purpose of Kids’ Chance is to provide financial scholarships for children of permanently and catastrophically injured or
deceased workers to complete their education.

Which children are eligible for the scholarships?
Children who had a parent who was permanently and catastrophically injured or killed in an employment-related accident, and who
are North Carolina residents between the ages of 16 and 25.

What is the criteria for the scholarships?
The parent’s death or injury much have resulted in a substantial decline in the family income. The applicant must be between the
ages of 16 and 25, and meet academic standards set by the Selection Committee of Kids’ Chance of NC, Inc.
4. When do you apply?
Kids’ Chance Scholarships are awarded on the basis of need throughout the year as funds are available.

How long is this scholarship for?
The scholarship is good for one school year, but the applicant must maintain acceptable grades each semester in order for it to
continue. The applicant may reapply at the end of one school year for the scholarship for the following school term. Renewals are
contingent upon availability of funds.

What does the scholarship cover?
Scholarship awards vary for college and technical schools and depend largely on the needs and educational expenses of the
student. Scholarships cover tuition and books, but may also include housing and meals.
