Wayguard™ S-60 Level Crossing Barrier Mechanism
New Features, Same High Reliability
Protecting Crossings
Benefits
The S-60 barrier mechanism is ideal for
operating level crossing entrance and exit
barriers. It can operate barrier arms up to 12
metres in length.
Diagnostic LEDs
Choice of variants—including 12 and 24 Vdc
input, entrance and exit gates—to cover all
applications.
Field-Proven Pedigree
Mechanism with inline gearmotor
and electric brake
Bidirectional lock bar
S-60 Level Crossing Barrier Mechanism S 60 S60
Benefits
Robust barrier arm mechanism
Proven reliability — based on S-20 and S-40
predecessors
Power up, power down to 70° (but will gravity fall)
Maintenance switch to drive mechanism down if arm
is knocked off
Suits aluminium, aluminium-fibreglass and timber
barrier arms
LED diagnostics and overspeed protection to prevent
damage after arm broken
The S-60 builds on the robust reputation of its
S-40 and S-20 predecessors. The high-strength
cast aluminium housing, maintenance-free
bearings, gear train and rotary circuit controller
are retained.
Improved Control and Options
The S-60’s new control board features LEDs that
display the status of the barrier.
Gate Down contacts are included.
The optional Mini Trackside Sensor (MTSS)
consolidates the monitoring of barrier position,
bell and tip lights to a SEAR, or add one or two
additional contact cam sets.
Advanced gearmotor and electric brake combination
Intelligent auto-reset overload circuit protects motor
and circuit board if obstruction stalls mechanism
Horizontal and vertical buffers adjusted externally
AREMA-compliant

Description
The S-60 barrier mechanism
incorporates many of the field-proven
components used in the earlier S-20 and
S-40 units, such as the cast housing and
cover, main shaft, sealed bearings,
gearing, contacts, and cams.

Features
• An inline gearmotor and electric
brake combination replaces the
previous motor and electromechanical hold clear device.
• An innovative bidirectional lock bar
locks the barrier arm—against rising
or falling and at any angle—for
maintenance and adjustment.
• A plug-coupled circuit board and
plug-coupled wiring harness
eliminate the possibility of errors
when replacing components; the
board can be changed and
functionally tested in less than five
minutes.
• An optional Mini Trackside Sensor
(MTSS) plugs directly into the main
circuit board to give a simple, singlewire interface to the SEAR II event
recorder and alarm monitoring
system. Can be added later.
• User contacts included for Gate
Down.
• Coarse- and fine-level adjustable
descent time for the barrier arm.
• Diagnostic LEDs on the circuit board
indicate Power On, UP Request,
Brake On, Breaker Tripped, Motor Up,
Motor Down, and Health; LEDS are lit
from the power source they monitor,
reducing the need for a multimeter
when troubleshooting.
