Annual Meeting 2017!
Our 58th Annual Meeting was held on Sunday, March 5th, at the Lisbon
Community School Gymnasium with 138 Members in attendance. Each
adult Member received a hard bound notebook and pen as they entered
the gymnasium, and all children received a gift certificate to Flagship Cinemas.
Among the informational items shared with the Members were the Chairperson’s
Report, the Treasurer’s Report, Loan Officers’ Report and Supervisory
Committee Reports, which reflected the Credit Union’s positive growth for the
year.
Congratulations to Jessica Maloy, Heather Picard and George Roy who were
elected by Members to serve on the board for three year terms. We look forward to
their input and working together to achieve the Credit Union’s goal over the next three
years.
Our Social Responsibility Committee presented checks to two local food pantries
from fundraising efforts by the Credit Union this year. Lisbon Area Christian
Outreach (LACO) received a $6,270.00 donation, and the Hope Haven Gospel
Mission received $2,090.00. The Lisbon Credit Union had raised $8,000 and
because of its placement in the top 25 fundraising Credit Unions in Maine, was
awarded another $360 to distribute by The Maine Credit Union League.
Celebrating milestone years of service to the Credit Union were Ashley Lebel,
Rick Roberts, Aaron Stewart, Diane Whitten (5
years), Diane Beagle, Ellen Bradstreet (10 years),
Shelly Curtis (15 years), Deborah Clary-Atwood,
Jessica Morrill (20 years), George Roy (30 years),
and Denise Dube (35 years), with each receiving
service pins. Congratulations to all! Your hard
work and dedication is much appreciated.
The meeting concluded with over $2,000 given
away in cash prizes.
Thank you to all who attended our 58th Annual Meeting. To those who weren’t
able to make it, we look forward to seeing you there next year!

FESTIVAL

Are You Prepared?
The Summer Basket Raffle is COMING!!
How prepared are you if you or another member
of your family should suddenly pass away or suffer
a disabling injury? Think about your family’s wallet
without you or your spouse’s paycheck. Think
about all your monthly expenses, including, but not
limited, to mortgage expenses, food, childcare, as
well as payments to your loans and credit cards. It’s
a sobering thought.
Life insurance should be considered if you have
young children, financially dependent parents or are a
dual income couple relying on both paychecks. Will
your survivors be left with mortgage payments they
can’t pay for on their own? Are there retirement
funds that could be used in case of your death or
other critical life event that leaves your household
short on funds?
Consider these eye-opening statistics:
● 68% of adults have no savings set aside for
emergencies
● 1/3 of Americans don’t have any retirement
savings
● 1 in 3 Americans believe they would feel the
impact from the loss of the primary wage earner
within one month of their passing
● 86% of people say they haven’t bought life
insurance because it’s too expensive
● “My employer has me covered,” “my job
isn’t dangerous.” or “I’m young and healthy and
won’t need it…” then why should I get disability
coverage?
● 20% of workers under the age of 40 think they are
more likely to win the lottery than become disabled
due to an illness or injury
● Approximately every 7 seconds a working-age
American suffers a disabling injury or illness that
could last at least a month or more.
● Nearly 90% of disabilities are not work related and
therefore not covered by worker’s compensation
● There is a 3 in 10 chance that a person suffering
from a disabling illness or injury will be kept out of
work for 3 months or more
● The Social Security Administration estimates
that 1 out of 4 20 year olds will suffer a disability
before they retire
● 35% of men and 56% of women received less
than $1,000.00 a month in Social Security disability
income
Figure out how much monthly after-tax income you
would need if you or your spouse’s salary should
stop. There are free on-line calculators that will
help you determine how much to start saving for
emergencies or loss of income:

Showcase
Business of the Month
To promote the local business economy, the Credit Union began a new initiative in
March 2016 called Business of the Month. Businesses are given the opportunity to
showcase their products and services to
build awareness and help promote their
business.
The January Business of the Month was
Caring Traditions. Located in Lisbon,
Caring Transitions is a compassionate
and professional solution for senior
relocation, downsizing, estate sale and
online auction services. Local owner
Helen Johnson was grateful for the business exposure, and many Members
learned of an important service they did not know existed!
Sarah Landry Photography
was Business of the Month
for February. She is a Maine
photographer specializing in
newborn photography. She also
offers family, wedding, sports
team, and senior photography.
Sarah has an amazing eye and
creates beautiful photos.
On her Facebook site:
”Woohoo! I’m the featured business
of the month at the Lisbon Community Federal Credit Union. I’m so excited
and honored that they asked to feature my business for the month of February. If
you stop by the CU don’t forget to check out the sample albums, take a peek at the
photos, and grab some business cards. AND, if you or your child is going to be a
high school senior this fall, there is something special just for you, so check it out!”
Greater Androscoggin Humane
Society had their display in our
lobby for the month of March.
The Animal Shelter accepts
lost, stray, and privately owned
animals. Being a full service
shelter means taking many
types of animals, although their
major intake is limited to cats/
kittens and dogs/puppies. They
received several monetary donations and shelter wish
list items from our generous Members. This organization does much good for our
communities and our furry and feathery friends and we were happy to have their
display in our lobby.
Interested in showcasing your business? We will provide a table and help you set up
a display. There is no cost for this service. We have placed a Business of the Month
box at the Receptionists’ desk in our main office for you to deposit your business
card, or you may email Vickie at [email protected]. We will choose a new
business each month and look forward to helping your business succeed.

Evans Notch
Blueberry Mountain Loop Trail and Rattlesnake Pool are
located 20 miles north of Fryeburg on Maine’s side of the White
Mountains National Forest. This 7.8 mile trail loop offers more than just
spectacular scenery and great hiking. If you take the small detour off the
Stone House Trail, you will end up at Rattlesnake Pool, which sits at the
end of a small waterfall. The clear blue-green waters and lush greenery
make this place look like a small lagoon. The mountain water makes the
pool cold year-round but it is a great place to cool off after a hike on the mountain. If you go in August, you
will enjoy the abundance of blueberries that grow all over the mountain.
Peaks Island
Once known as the “Coney Island of Maine,” Peaks Island is a great place
to spend time with family and friends. The island
boasts unparalleled ocean views and the world’s
only Umbrella Cover Museum. There is so much
to see and do on Peaks Island, including kayaking,
hiking and even tours by golf cart.
Height of Land
Drive along Maine State Route 17, you will be amazed when the land suddenly
drops off to the west and the view opens up to reveal breathtaking views. Height
of Land is located on the top of Spruce Mountain in Rangeley. It is part of
Rangeley Lake’s 32-mile National Scenic Byway. You can pull over and just enjoy
the view or park at the lookout and hike Spruce Mountain. Known as one of the
most picturesque views in Maine, you won’t be disappointed.

Help Promoting Your
Non-Profit Organization
or Event?
The Lisbon Credit Union cares about our
communities. We know that non-profit organizations
spend most of their budgets on the programs they
run for the people and causes that they serve.
This often leaves very little money for marketing,
communicating, advertising or promoting what they stand for and the important things they do.
We have a unique advantage when it comes to marketing because we have the opportunity to
reach many individuals in a variety of ways. Because we believe in the importance of non-profits,
we are offering to help your organization advertise an event with space on our electronic sign,
our indoor lobby video and our Facebook page!
Why is the Credit Union interested in doing this for you? It’s mutually beneficial! Your nonprofit gains exposure and we help improve the communities we live in! It’s a win-win!
We can be reached at 353-4144 or [email protected] We look forward to helping your
organization succeed!
Members have until April 18th to
make 2016 IRA contributions.
This year, April 15th is on a
Saturday. Normally, that would make
the following Monday (April 17)
the tax deadline. But, that’s when
Washington D.C. has the legal
holiday for Emancipation Day.
Because of this, the IRS tax deadline
is the following day.

Home
Improvement Loans
...there are options!
Whether you want to make a few simple upgrades or construct a new addition, if you don’t have the money saved for the project, we
can help you.
A few ways to get the cash you need without resorting to high interest rate credit cards:
Fixed Rate Home Equity Loans, Home Equity Lines of Credit, and No Equity
Home Improvement Loans.
Many people think home improvement loans and home equity loans are the same,
but that is not the case. Unlike a No Equity Home Improvement Loan, a home
equity loan is secured with the equity in your home – that’s the difference
between the market value of your home and what you owe. For example,
if your home is worth $200,000 and you have $110,000 left on your
mortgage, you have $90,000 in equity. The Credit Union calculates 80%
of your home value and subtracts your mortgage balance to figure out
how much you can borrow. In our example, 80% of the home’s value would be $160,000. Take away $110,000 and you could
borrow up to $50,000.
If you have a lot of equity, a Fixed Rate Home Equity Loan is a good option if you need to make costly home improvements. The
interest rate you receive will be lower than a No Equity Home Improvement Loan. Your rate is fixed, so your payments would remain
the same for the life of the loan, and the interest may be tax-deductible (see your tax preparer for details).
A Home Equity Lines of Credit (HELOC) is the more flexible of home equity loans. They work similar to credit cards in that you
use the funds from your HELOC when you need them, as long as you stay under your borrowing limit. This is a good choice is you’re
embarking on a long-term home improvement project and aren’t sure exactly how much money you’ll need or when you’ll need it –
compare this with a No Equity Home Improvement Loan or a Fixed Rate Home Equity Loan that pay out a lump sum. Interest may also
be deductible with HELOCs.The HELOCs have a variable rate based on the Prime Rate and the current rate is 4.00% (as of 3/31/2017;
subject to change).
Many homeowners have no equity in their home, either because they have not been in their home for very long or have been hit
with a decline in home value. If you fall in this category and have home improvements that need to be done, a No Equity Home
Improvement Loan is the perfect loan for you. These loans have a fixed interest rate of 5.95%, a maximum repayment term of 10 years
and a maximum loan amount of $20,000.
Before you begin your project, visit with one of our Loan Officers to discuss the options and determine which will work best for you.
Our New

beyond for Members and for always being available to help other employees. Aaron always uses
the Member’s name in his conversations with them as well as finishing the call with “is there
anything else I can do for you?”
He lives in Sabattus with his girlfriend and their 4 cats. In his spare time, Aaron likes to
play video games, board games, watch movies and spend time with friends. Some of his other
