Starting in the Theatre Program teaching Theatre Tap Dance, his schedule quickly grew to include Beginning and Intermediate Dance Classes for children and adults. He was 18 when he started dance lessons at Karamu House and took play acting and dance classes while also attending Boyd Business College and working three jobs. After a while he decided Acting was more demanding than he had time for; so, he continued with Dance classes. While in class at Karamu, sometimes he would see other students struggling to get a dance step the instructor was teaching. Mr. Moodie found himself thinking, “Gee, I think perhaps I can show/explain to others in an easier stepby-step way.” It was years before his opportunity arrived to become an instructor. What’s Mr. Moodie’s favorite part of being a dance instructor? “That’s easy…..the little kids. Every day, they make my day. They lift my spirits and help bring out the very best in me.” Hip Hop/Jazz Funk Ages: Day/Time: 7 to 9yrs Monday, 4 - 4:45pm Ages: Day/Time: 10 to 12yrs Monday, 4:45 - 5:30pm Ages: Day/Time: 13 to 16yrs Monday, 5:30 - 6:15pm Instructor: Liz Catterlin Fee: $110 This class is high energy class that uses the latest music, with movements influenced by today’s top video choreographer’s and dancers. Make music education a priority for yourself, your child, and for humanity. According to a study by College Board in 2010, students who took music lessons for four years or more scored an average of 100 points higher on the SATs than students who did not play a musical instrument. In addition, studying music improves recall and retention of verbal information, advances math achievement, and boosts reading and language arts skills. According to research by Mitchell Gaynor M.D. (Sounds of Healing), music also has therapeutic physical effects, including reduced anxiety, heart and respiratory rates, reduced cardiac complications, lowered blood pressure, and increased immune responses.
