Professional Training by Professional Dancers
Fairmount Center for the Arts has partnered with
Verb Ballets to strengthen the Fairmount dance program and
provide opportunities for Fairmount students to experience
professional performance.
In Fall 2015, a partnership between the two organizations
was launched. Since then, the students have not only been
receiving training from professional dancers, but the advanced
students have had the opportunity to perform in several of
Verb Ballets’ professional productions.
About Verb Ballets
Verb Ballets mission is to ignite audience passion and participation in contemporary ballet through performance,
outreach programs and community engagement. Our vision is to be a nationally recognized leader in performing
dance works of the highest caliber; a catalyst to promote learning, nurture wellness and encourage dialogue about
the dance art form; and a thought leader in cultivating dance appreciation and support throughout the region.

Fredrick Moodie,
Kinderdance & Tap Instructor
Fredrick Moodie has been part of the Fairmount
family of instructors for three years. Starting in the
Theatre Program teaching Theatre Tap Dance,
his schedule quickly grew to include Beginning
and Intermediate Dance Classes for children and
adults. He was 18 when he started dance lessons
at Karamu House and took play acting and dance classes while
also attending Boyd Business College and working three jobs. After
a while he decided Acting was more demanding than he had time
for; so, he continued with Dance classes. While in class at Karamu,
sometimes he would see other students struggling to get a dance
step the instructor was teaching. Mr. Moodie found himself thinking,
“Gee, I think perhaps I can show/explain to others in an easier stepby-step way.” It was years before his opportunity arrived to become
an instructor. What’s Mr. Moodie’s favorite part of being a dance
instructor? “That’s easy…..the little kids. Every day, they make my
day. They lift my spirits and help bring out the very best in me.”

the voice as it relates to musical theater, popular or classical
styles. Students can perform their solos in public recitals that are
held in the Fall and Spring. Musical theater students and others
can develop confidence and use these valuable skills in future
auditions or other performance venues. Singing still remains
one of the most popular instruments of private study. For more
information, please call 440.338.3171. You can visit David’s

Piano
Our private lessons are designed for
both beginners and experienced music
lovers. Discover how music can become
a unique and irreplaceable part of your
life – observe a lesson with your child.
Make music education a priority for
yourself, your child, and for humanity.
According to a study by College Board
in 2010, students who took music
lessons for four years or more scored an
average of 100 points higher on the SATs than students who
did not play a musical instrument. In addition, studying music
improves recall and retention of verbal information, advances
math achievement, and boosts reading and language arts skills.
According to research by Mitchell Gaynor M.D. (Sounds of
Healing), music also has therapeutic physical effects, including
reduced anxiety, heart and respiratory rates, reduced cardiac
complications, lowered blood pressure, and increased immune
responses. So, what are you waiting for? Call 440.338.3171

Fairmount Center is pleased to offer cello, guitar, piano,
