Dear NAB AFL Auskick Coordinator, One of the highlights for many NAB AFL Auskick participants is the opportunity to participate in the half time grid games at an AFL match. This program was first introduced as “Little League” in 1967, the program in 2011 will provide over 23,000 children and junior umpires with the opportunity to participate in NAB AFL Auskick half time grid games and experience our great game on the grounds their heroes play at during each week of the AFL season. This document details all of the information that you require for your centres participation in NAB AFL Auskick Grid Games, including a sample letter for you to update and distribute to your selected participants. I hope that you enjoy your visit to The Gabba. Best wishes for the 2011 season. Coordinators are encouraged to have an open and transparent process in place for selecting grid game participants. PLAYING APPAREL Each team will receive a box, which contains 18 x jumpers, 18 x shorts and 18 x socks. It is up to the Coordinator to ensure all apparel is accounted for after the game and placed back into the box. All uniforms are to be turned out the correct way and socks are to be left unpaired. UMPIRES Each AFL Auskick centre is required to supply an umpire. This is an opportunity to reward one of the umpires from your centre/club. AFL AUSKICK CO-ORDINATORS Coordinators are required to be on the field to coach and encourage their participants. Coordinators must wear their AFL Auskick Polo Shirt with either shorts or tracksuit pants and sand shoes. Coordinators must not umpire. SMOKING AND ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION The AFL seeks to maintain the highest standards in all of its Game Development operations, for which the AFL Auskick program is a cornerstone. Accordingly a level of professionalism, social awareness and appropriateness is expected of all staff and volunteers in setting the correct social example to participants and their families. As a result, the AFL insists that prior to and during the course of AFL Auskick half time, all staff, volunteers and parent helpers do not consume alcohol and do not actively partake in smoking around the participants. Once halt time is complete and the responsibilities of staff, volunteers and parent helpers are fulfilled, they are able to partake in social activities at their leisure, however not whilst wearing or displaying any AFL properties (including apparel, access passes, etc) PARENT INVOLVEMENT Each centre is to provide 3 parents to assist with the following duties: 1. Goal umpire 2. Setting up playing fields 3. Carrying signage onto the field 4. Help children change into playing apparel All parents involved in duties on the oval must be wearing a white goal umpire’s coat (these will be supplied). CHANGE ROOMS Change rooms are under the Northern Stand. Officials and children will be escorted to the rooms at the conclusion of the first quarter of the main game. RESPONSIBILITY OF CHILDREN AFL Auskick staff and volunteers will be responsible for coordinating and supervising those children participating in NAB AFL Auskick activities during half-time of AFL matches at AFL venues. Before and after the NAB AFL Auskick activities, supervision of participating children is the responsibility of the child’s parent/guardian. Accordingly, NAB AFL Auskick volunteers should ensure that during those non-NAB AFL Auskick activity times there is a parent or other responsible person supervising those participants. INCLEMENT WEATHER It is imperative that at half-time, weather conditions must be suitable for playing. In the case of inclement weather including an electrical storm, a decision will be made by the AFL Auskick Manager and Ground Manager to determine if NAB AFL Auskick at half-time is to be cancelled for the children’s safety. MEETING ARRANGEMENTS Teams are to meet AFL Auskick Coordinators an hour and a half before the scheduled starting time of the main game.
