2017 Select Program Outline
OVERVIEW:
The USA Softball of Sacramento Select (aka “B”) program is designed to create a more competitive environment for players
to participate in while still remaining in a recreational league setting. This program will allow USA Softball Recreational
leagues to form a team to represent their league on a year-round basis.
Each league will be eligible to put together a Select team at the beginning of the year to compete against the other Select
teams formed by other leagues. This allows the league to retain the better players while keeping them in the recreational
league. This in turn, creates a higher base level of play in the recreational league and drives participation back to the rec
program.
Foothill Girls Softball League will participate in this program for the 2017 season with the intention of fielding both a 10u
and 12u Select team. Forming a Select team will be dependent on registration numbers for each division and a qualified
coaching staff.
COACH:
Foothill Girls Softball League is accepting applications for interested coaches. Please email Michelle Thompson at
[email protected]. Names must be turned in no later than January 12th. The board will appoint the coaching
staff from the applicants and be notified prior to the 10u and 12u evaluations scheduled for 1/22/17.
PLAYER ELIGIBILITY:
1. Players must be registered with Foothill Girls Softball League to be eligible to participate on the Select Program
team.
2. The players on the Select team must also participate in the recreational league.
3. All players must live within the approved boundaries of Foothill Girls Softball League.
4. Any player that participates with any other team outside of their recreational league or Select Team during the
recreational league season will forfeit their eligibility.
5. All players must participate in a tryout for their respective divisions to be held immediately following
recreational 10u and 12u evaluations currently scheduled for 1/22/17.
6. One B Team per age division.
SCHEDULE:
The tournament schedule is a set schedule from March – June. After that, teams can choose to continue to play together
for the summer/fall months. It should be the goal of most teams to participate in the USA Softball Western Nationals
which is typically the last week of July/first week of August.

COST:


Players must be registered with Foothill Girls Softball League and have paid the regular registration fees.
Once the player has made the Select team there will be an additional tournament fee of approximately
$300 / per player (based on a 12 player per team format). This fee will cover all 8 tournament entry fees and
player jerseys.
TRYOUTS:
Tryouts will be held on January 22ND immediately following the recreational try outs for 10u and 12u. Players who wish
to participate on the Select Team must attend both the recreational and select evaluations scheduled for the same date
and location. Tryouts will be run by the selected Coach and FGSL Board Members. Players will be selected based on the
tryout by the Coach and two FGSL Board Members.
If a coach is not selected prior to player evaluations the board may choose to hold try outs pending the appointment of a
coach. FGSL will only field a Select team if it has both enough coaches and players to field a team in the applicable
division (10u and 12u).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
All additional tournaments are the responsibility of the team to select, fundraise for and contact the tournament
director to enter. Teams may ONLY play in USA Softball (aka ASA) tournaments. Participation in any other type of
event (NSA, USSSA, DF, PGF, etc.) will result in re-classification to the “A” program.
