The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) promotes profitable agriculture, fisheries and forestry
industries for Queensland.
DAF employs about 2000 people in areas including policy development, leading-edge science, Biosecurity,

The Agriculture group drives policy, strategy and legislations development to support agriculture and
fisheries industry development. It also delivers innovative, practical solutions through smart science in
collaboration with a range of partners.
Your opportunity
Operating from within the Land Management Unit, you will manage and maintain complex and diverse
stakeholder relationships to develop and implement policies, strategies, and operate programs to
provide assistance and support to build primary producer resilience and preparedness for climate risks
such as drought, natural disasters, structural change, and to help producers adapt to a changing climate.
Key duties and accountabilities
 Provide professional leadership to drought, climate risk and climate change adaptation policies
and program development and delivery processes to achieve outcomes consistent with DAF
Queensland’s drought and climate risk policies.
 Provide specialised, strategic advice on drought, natural disasters, climate risk and climate change
adaptation policies.
 Oversee the formulation, approval and regular review of strategies necessary to minimise the
economic, social and environmental impacts of drought, natural disasters, climate variability, climate
change and structural change to the agricultural sector in Queensland.

This may include:
o Coordination and oversight of the Drought Relief Assistance Scheme (DRAS) and other
primary producer assistance programs that may be implemented by the Queensland
Government.
o Coordination and oversight of delivery of the Drought and Climate Adaptation Program
(DCAP) projects and activities.
o
Coordination and oversight of the Agency’s preparedness and roles in Natural Disaster
Response,
o Coordination and oversight of the Agency’s portfolio responsibilities with regard to
statutory bodies such as the Queensland Rural Industry Development Authority.
Prepare high level reports, submissions, briefing papers, legislation and correspondence to
executive management and the Minister and others on key strategic issues and achievements.
Manage projects, contracts, agreements including reporting and evaluation of these activities.
Represent the Department at external forums and promote the objectives and achievements of
the Queensland Government and develop and maintain constructive working relationships,
networks and consultative processes with key stakeholder organisations including Government
agencies, Universities, Industry bodies, Natural Resource Management Groups, producer groups,
and departmental service delivery managers.
Manage a diverse team of permanent, temporary and contract staff.





A degree in agricultural science, natural resource management, or business is desirable, although it is not
a requirement.

A three month probationary period may apply to successful candidates external to the public sector.
