April 2017 Dear Applicant Many thanks for expressing an interest in the post of Teacher of PE (Girls) with responsibility for Enrichment and Primary Transition at Tarporley High School and Sixth Form College. We are looking for an excellent teacher of girls’ PE who will lead and develop aspects of our sports provision. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is keen to continue to develop as a teacher in a high-achieving 11-18 school, and who aspires to leadership in PE. Tarporley High School & Sixth Form College is a single academy trust, set in the heart of mid-Cheshire, halfway between Chester and Nantwich, in the borough of Cheshire West and Chester. It is a welcoming, friendly community where staff at all levels work together as a team, and are dedicated to ensuring every young person receives an outstanding education. Having been rated as a good school for many years, we were judged by Ofsted in March 2014 to be outstanding in all areas. We were then successful in our application to become a Teaching School, and are the only Secondary-led Teaching School Alliance in the area. I have been Headteacher here for fifteen years and I am supported by excellent Senior and Middle Leader Teams, a well-informed supportive governing body, and strong links to other local schools. I am committed to teamwork, an open consultative management style, high levels of delegated responsibility and distributed leadership. The school is highly regarded across the community, and we are currently oversubscribed for 2017/18 Being judged to be outstanding is a great achievement, and testimony to the aspirations, the qualities and the superb efforts of our staff and students. Whilst feeling proud of the recognition the school has received, we are not complacent and we do not think we are perfect. Therefore there will be plenty of challenge and scope for the successful candidate to contribute to developing and improving our provision for PE, and the part played by sport in our extra-curricular enrichment programmes and our primary partnership. You will join a strong PE team who all play a key part in driving improvements to teaching, learning and achievement, and who work closely together, sharing practice and innovation to develop keys areas of curriculum, learning and assessment. We have excellent provision for staff development, incorporating quality time for subject teachers to work closely in their teams, supported by their Curriculum Leader. This is an important new post that combines aspects of the former School Sports Coordinator role, previously held by our recently promoted Head of PE, Joe Morphet, together with a focus on developing sport beyond the core curriculum. We have an excellent partnership with our primary schools, many of which are rural, and they greatly value our support in enhancing their children’s involvement in inter-school tournaments. We are also keen to keep widening young people’s participation in sport beyond the curriculum by developing an exciting offer, and encouraging the involvement of all. You will be well supported in your role by our partner schools and by the whole PE team, all of whom share a strong vision for sport and physical education at Tarporley. I hope that having read this, you will be keen to apply for the post, and I look forward to hearing from you. If, on the other hand, you decide that this is not the post for you, may I thank you for your interest and wish you well for the future. In order to apply, please complete the application form (you can download this from our website www.tarporleyhigh.co.uk) making sure you provide all requested information, including clearly explaining any gaps in employment, and clearly and fully detailing the types and sizes of schools in which you have worked. Please be sure to indicate clearly the grade/class/level of ALL qualifications cited. Please write a letter of application no longer than 3 sides of A4, legible font size. You should outline your relevant achievements and address the following: Why you are applying for this post The skills and qualities you would bring to the role of Teacher of PE (Girls) with responsibility for Enrichment and Primary Transition at Tarporley High School & Sixth Form College Yours sincerely SARAH LEE Headteacher
