BLACK OAK MEN’S CLUB JANUARY 2013 NEWSLETTER Next Tournament Tournament Rules Saturday, Feb. 9 Our February tournament is composed of two 8:00 Shotgun parts. Each team will comprise 4 Devil Ball members. The first 3-Man Best Ball part is Devil Ball (sometimes called Yellow Ball). The second part is 3-Man Best Ball. Each team will be provided a specially colored (probably not yellow), uniquely marked ball. + so on. Chose your order wisely. The other three players play Best Ball. The two scores are added together for a composite score. If the Devil Ball is lost (or hit out of bounds), the rotating player uses his own ball for the remainder of the round. The rotating player’s score is always used in the composite score. The score of the original Devil Ball will be used as a tie breaker for the Best Ball competition. The Devil Ball Winner will be determined first by those teams who manage to complete their round without losing their Devil Ball. If more than one team finishes with their Devil Ball, the tie breaker will be the usual method using the Devil Ball score on the 9th hole, etc. Teams determine their order of play and rotate in that If no team completes their round with their Devil Ball, order until the end of the round. For example: Player 1 the team that completes the most holes will be the plays the Devil Ball on hole #1, player 2 on hole #2, and winner. Two-Man Best Ball Results shot better than par or better, while only 7 teams shot over par. First place finishers in each flight won $52 in Our January tournament got off to a late start because script for each player, second place $32.50 per player of cold, frosty weather but finished in nice, warm sun- and third place $25 per player. A couple of the places required a tiebreak. In the 2nd flight, Ortiz/Rawlins shine. The course played like two different nines: the won the tie breaker against Hazen/ Miller and in the first nine was like playing in a parking lot because of frozen greens and fairways, the second nine found balls 3rd flight, Hieronimus/Larson won the tie breaker against Power/Luedee. This was also the first tournaplugging in the fairway. The turnout was good for a cold January morning. Despite the difficult conditions, ment that we allowed non-members to play and comsome pretty good scores were turned in. Below is an excerpt from an article published to the players in the 2003 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. These are guidelines to which we should attempt to adhere. Playing time estimates, generally 15 minutes per hole, are available in the pro shop. Pace of Play Policy Rule 6-7 states, in part: "The player shall play without undue delay and in accordance with any pace of play guidelines which may be laid down by the Committee," and thereafter prescribes penalties for slow play. In order to prevent any such penalty we suggest that you review carefully the following guidelines. Allotted Time Black Oak Golf Course has set times for each hole within which they expect all groups to play. Definition of "Out of Position" Any group will be considered out of position if it (a) is taking more than the allotted time to play and (b) reaches the teeing ground of a par-3 hole and the preceding group has cleared the next tee; reaches the teeing ground of a par-4 hole and the putting green is clear; or reaches the teeing ground of a par-5 hole when the preceding group is on the putting green. Both (a) and (b) must apply for a group to be out of position. Pace of Play Penalties The following are the penalties, in sequence, for any player in a group or match being timed who takes more than the allotted time to play a stroke after timing of the player's stroke begins: Stroke Play One bad timing exceeding the allotted time - warning A second bad timing - 1 stroke penalty A third bad timing - Additional 2 stroke penalty A fourth bad timing - Disqualification Match Play One bad timing exceeding the allotted time - warning A second bad timing - loss of hole A third bad timing - warning A fourth bad timing - Disqualification NOTE: If the group/match in question regains its proper position, any previous timing of more than the allotted time will be carried over for the remainder of that round/match in the event that the group/match requires additional monitoring.
