employ more than 61,000 people and represent parent
companies from 44 different countries

Emphasis on Education
Lincoln County Schools and all of the Charlotte MSA understands the
importance of education and working with foreign firms that have
investments in corporate, distribution, warehousing and manufacturing.
The Charlotte MSA region supports many international languages and
cultures. Approximately forty-six plus different countries are
represented in the region with fourteen foreign own firms operating
and conducting business through manufacturing in Lincoln County. The
future strength lies in its excellent education system. Many school
systems in the region supports and encourages cultural and foreignlanguage education. There are four language immersion schools for
students who study German, French, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese or
Spanish. More than fourteen thousand students speak a foreign
language, representing a total of one hundred and sixty-nine different
languages.
Eight international schools also help students maintain language skills
and cultural identity in the Charlotte area. One Japanese school, one
German school, two Chinese schools, one Korean school, one Greek
school, one Swedish school and one Russian school. The Charlotte area
is also home to one of five British American schools. The Carolina
International School is located just outside of Charlotte in Cabarrus
County.
Within the Charlotte region approximately nine hundred and seventy-six
foreign owned firms, employing more than sixty-one thousand people,
representing more than forty-six countries operate within the sixteen
county region. The four largest foreign owned firms representing their
country are, Germany, United Kingdom, Canada and Japan.
