Parents and Players
January 2016
Welcome to Holy Saviour Netball Club
We are writing to advise parents and players of some of the expectations and requirements for playing
netball with our club in the Waverley City Netball Association (WCNA). We have outlined these below for
your reference. Please do not hesitate to contact your coach to clarify any areas of concern.
Dress Code
The uniform for Holy Saviour 11/U teams is a navy blue netball skirt (or shorts for boys) and the club tshirt. Holy Saviour 13/U teams and above are required to wear the Holy Saviour Netball dress. T-shirts and
dresses are available for purchase from Trish Skafidis 0400 558 829 or email [email protected].
Girls are required to wear sports briefs under their netball skirt/dress at all times. Appropriate sneakers
are a must and white socks complete the uniform.
Please ensure uniforms are ordered well in advance of the season, as not all sizes are in stock, and may need
to be ordered. Uniforms generally take in excess of four weeks to be delivered.
Club t-shirts may also be worn over dresses prior to and after games, or at training.
All jewellery is to be removed before playing. If it cannot be removed, it must be taped to cover the entire
piece. Fingernails must be trimmed to a short length (not protruding above the top of the finger).
Coaches
Our coaches are all volunteers. We are very grateful for their time, effort and dedication.
Occasionally parents/players may not agree with a decision or placement. Please understand that coaches
will make decisions as they see fit and will consider the interest of each player plus the team as a whole.
If you have an issue with your coach that you feel needs to be discussed, we encourage you not to approach
your coach directly, but to see the President (Craig Le Sueur) or the Coaches Coordinator (Iain Fraser). The
issue will then be dealt with appropriately, involving the coach if required. We encourage parents to show
good support for their child’s team coach, remember without them, your child’s team cannot take to the
court.
The club financially supports the development of all young and/or new coaches. They are required to
complete a level 1 coach’s foundation course. The club funds the fees for all new coaches to attend this
course.
Umpiring and Coaching Opportunities
Each team requires at least one coach (and preferably an assistant coach), and for every team we submit to
play we also need to provide an umpire. Holy Saviour Netball Club encourages and supports everyone who is
eligible and willing to umpire or coach. Please remember that umpires at Junior levels may not be as
experienced as those umpiring at the Open standards that some parents play, and they need our support.

WELCOME PACK
Parent and Spectator Behaviour & Player Behaviour
Netball is a game that is played for the enjoyment of all players, coaches, umpire and spectators. It is
important that all parents realise that they are primary role models for good sportsmanship to their child.
The respective coaches will instruct players on appropriate behaviour and sportsmanship on the court.
The following is an extract from the Waverley City Netball Association Information Booklet:
“All clubs/teams participating in any competition conducted by WCNA will be held responsible for the behaviour and actions
of their players and spectators. Verbal abuse or unduly rough play of any kind will not be tolerated. We also request clubs
ask parents to please keep their children off and from behind the seating on Court 4 and from under the seating on Court 1
and to behave in an acceptable manner especially around and in the toilets.”
Note – Courts 1 and 4 are indoor courts
Training Venue and times
All teams train at SportLink Vermont South, on Hanover Rd, Vermont Sth (located behind Coles) on the
outside courts. Training is on Friday nights before the match on Saturday. Generally if there is no game
there is no training the night before, however coaches may schedule their team to train. Time will vary
according to the particular team.
Younger teams and Net Set Go tend to train from 4.00 to 5.00pm, and older teams tend to train from 5.00 –
6.00pm. Team managers will notify teams if training is cancelled due to bad weather.
Due to the young age of some of our coaches, it is expected that parents will remain at training to provide
adult supervision for their child at all times during the session. If they are unable to do so, it is their
responsibility to authorise another parent to do so.
Arrival for training
Parents please make sure your children are at training 5 minutes before your scheduled start. Water
bottles are a must for training and a hat to be worn on hot days. We must be prepared to start training at
the time specified for your team.
Game Venue
All matches are played at the Waverley Netball Centre at Jells Park. Entry is via Waverley Rd/Jells Rd
entrance, using the first car park entrance to gain access to the Netball Centre. (Please note, parking can be
more difficult on Round Robin/finals days.)
Arrival at Games
Parents are asked to ensure that their children are at the netball courts 20 minutes prior to the beginning
of the game. This allows the coaches to warm up the players, an important process to prevent injuries, and
to organise the team into their positions. If you have any queries about where to meet your team, please
speak to your coach or team manager.
Court allocation for all games is located on the window closest to the car park near the first outdoor court.
Courts 1 – 4 are located inside (Court 1 being closest to the car park), and courts 5 – 12 are outdoor courts,
with court 5 being the closest to the car park, and court 12 being closest to Jells Rd.
Please ensure that your child has a bottle of water for the game. Tracksuits can be worn ONLY on really
cold days. They must have no pockets and no zips.
In the event of inclement weather, all players must assume they will play. Indoor games are rotated through
the sections at each time slot, and are notified on game day at the venue. Outdoor games that are cancelled
due to weather require each team player to be checked off against the score card by the umpire of the
game. If less than 5 players are present, the umpire will declare a forfeit, and all points will go to the
opposition team. The club also receives a fine for each forfeit.

WELCOME PACK
Rosters for Scoring / Setting up Courts
All parents will be rostered on to score and provide fruit for the team at some stage during the season. This
will be organised by the team manager. There may also be times that parents are required to be rostered on
to set up the courts for the day’s play. This will be organised by the club.
When rostered on, teams nominated as the home team are required to collect the score sheet from the
Control Box window, located near the Canteen with access on the outside of the centre. Both teams are
required to provide a scorer to ensure fairness.
Team Managers
Team managers support the coach by rostering fruit duty, scoring, bringing drink caddy to games etc. It is
expected that all parents take a turn.
Parent Voting
Rostered parents are also required to vote for the “MVP Award”, on a voting slip designed to assist. These
are handed back to the team manager in an envelope, and are collated at the end of the season by a
committee member.
11/U Player Rotation Policy
Holy Saviour Netball Club has a junior (11/U) player rotation policy to ensure all players receive an
opportunity to play in all positions as they develop their netball. This means that all players are required to
rotate around, play and learn all positions of the netball court through the season.
Fees
Fees for each player include:
Victoria Netball Association membership (VNA) which covers insurance for injuries. The VNA fee is
an annual fee, paid once per calendar year (usually paid with the Winter registration fee). This fee
varies depending on the age of each player.
Club fee - contributing to cost of each team registering with the association, umpire costs, court hire,
public liability, trophies, equipment (kits for each team), etc. This is paid each season. Winter season
is slightly longer than the Spring season, so usually has slightly higher fees.
Fundraising levy – this was introduced in 2010, as families preferred this to fundraising (eg selling
chocolates). Cost is $10 per player, with a maximum of $20 per family.
Presentation Night and Annual General Meeting
The Presentation Night and Annual General Meeting is held in November/December. Each player receives a
participation award. Awards also include a MVP and Coaches Award. The new Committee are also selected.
Committee Roles
The Committee consists of an Executive of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary, and other
committee positions including Coaches Coordinator, Umpires Coordinator, Team Manager Coordinator, Parent
Voting Coordinator, Registration Officer, and Property Manager and others as the needs arise.
The Committee work together to ensure the smooth running of the club. It is always a pleasure to see new
faces around the club, and appreciate those who have the time to help out.
We trust that this provides you with all relevant information, however if you have any questions at all please
do not hesitate to contact your child’s coach or a member of the committee.
