St Columba’s Primary School Newsletter - January 2017 Head Teacher: Miss Michaelina MacLellan Tel: 01631 568090 01631 568092 E-mail: [email protected] Dear Parents and Carers, CHRISTMAS BOOK LAUNCH Thank you to everyone who attended our book launch. It was fantastic to see so many parents and family members there and your attendance was greatly appreciated by both the staff and the pupils. A huge amount of work went into creating the books and we’re sure that we have some budding authors in our midst! WH SMITH We are very grateful to WH Smith for donating £150 worth of vouchers for books to the school. This will enable us to build up a bank of books to use as book studies which will help to further enhance our literacy learning. Thank you! CYCLING PROFICIENCY Our P7/6 pupils will be starting their cycling proficiency training on Tuesday 17 January. The training will start with a bicycle check to ensure that all bicycles are in a safe and road worthy condition and this will be followed by three weeks of training within the playground and six weeks of training on the road at Morvern Hill. Please ensure that your child brings their bicycle to school every Tuesday morning and that they come prepared for wet weather. SCHOOL UNIFORM It is important to ensure that all pupils in the school conform to the school uniform and take a sense of pride in wearing it. Please ensure that your child does not come to school wearing jeans or brightly coloured trainers. We shall be sending a uniform order to our supplier at the end of January and this will be the last one until our order for the new school session 2017/18 is sent in May/June. If you wish to order any uniform please contact the school office and an order form will be sent home with your child. All orders with payment should be returned to the school by Wednesday 25 January. ST COLUMBA’S ENTRANCE A number of adults have been entering the school building via the St Columba’s entrance before the start of the school day and at the end of the school day. The door is open in the morning to allow children access to the toilets but only pupils needing to use the toilet should come in the doors. We have asked to ensure that these doors are kept locked until the bell goes at the end of the school day and we ask that no-one enters the building before then. This is to ensure the safety of all of the pupils in the building and to ensure that in the event of a fire, we know exactly who is in the school building. Should you need to enter the school building, please go to the main Campus entrance and sign in at the office. We would appreciate your co-operation with this. REGISTRATION FOR P1 PUPILS FOR AUGUST 2017 Any child who will be five years old between 1st March 2017 and 28th February 2018 and wishes to enrol with us to start school in August 2017 should register with us at the following times: Monday 16th January – 1.30pm – 3pm Tuesday 17th January – 8.30am – 11.45am Wednesday 18th January – 8.30am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm – 3pm Friday 20th January – 9am – 10am We ask that you take your child and their birth certificate along with you to register them for school. However, if your child is already familiar with the school then it is not necessary to bring them with you. All children who enrol with us will be invited to come into school every Wednesday afternoon from 2pm – 3pm starting on Wednesday 25th January to begin their transition to us. The weekly visits have proved invaluable in the past as they have enabled the children and their parents to become familiar with the school and the school staff and it ensures a very smooth transition from nursery to P1. RECONCILIATION There will be a meeting for parents whose children are receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday 1st February at 5.30pm in the GP Room. The children will be receiving the sacrament on Wednesday 29th March at 6pm in the Cathedral. NUT ALLERGIES We have some pupils within the Campus who have a severe allergy to nuts. Therefore, we ask that pupils do not bring in any nuts to school. EARLY YEARS GROUP Our Early Years Group will continue to meet every Wednesday afternoon from 1.40pm to 3.10pm and all parents with children under five are more than welcome to attend. If there are any more parents who would be willing to help to run the group then their help would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you would be interested in this.
