350 SE Fairmont Road, Pullman WA 99163 509.334.9147 | 800.482.3991 | Fax: 509.334.9105 | [email protected] moving people and communities to a positive future SO YOU WANT TO MOVE TO SPOKANE To move from Whitman County into any other jurisdiction within Spokane Housing Authority is treated similar to moving. Please note, this is the order in which you must complete the moving process: Contact your eligibility specialist to determine if you are eligible to move. Turn in a written move notice at least 45-60 days prior to you wanting to move. Your move notice MUST include your name, your address, and the date that you wish to vacate your current unit. Section 8 is only able to end HAP contracts at the end of the month, so you can only move out at the end of the month. Complete a Mutual Termination form with your landlord and submit it to our office. Once we receive your move notice we will send out a Termination of HAP that lets both you and your landlord know that we have received your move notice and the date that Section 8 will stop paying on your unit. Complete the application and release forms. The application must be processed and verified. Attend a briefing and sign a new voucher. We will then send your file up to Spokane. At this point, you will be working exclusively with Spokane Housing Authority. You will need to contact your Eligibility Specialist to figure out what you need to do next in order to complete your move process. Find a unit and have your landlord complete Request for Tenancy Approval (RFTA). Bring the RFTA to Spokane Housing Authority. Spokane Housing Authority will process the request and schedule an inspection. We recommend that you do not sign a lease with a landlord until after the unit passes inspection. Your landlord must be willing to make any repairs and accommodations needed to pass inspection. Section 8 cannot fund a unit until the unit passes inspection. You will be fully responsible for the rent at any new unit, if you move in prior to the inspection, until this process is complete. If you have any questions regarding this process you may contact the Section 8 department at the Community Action Center at 509-334-9147. Outreach Office: 200 N.
