General Information

We have three teams: Freshman, JV and Varsity.
o
Freshmen who make JV are the exception, not the norm. We intend to keep all Freshmen
together if possible. Once a freshman plays in a JV/Varsity game they cannot return to the
Freshman team.
o
We expect to carry 18-19 field players on both JV and Varsity.
o
High school athletics is highly competitive and is for the serious athlete. Being a competitive
high school athlete is a full-time commitment. We have a practice, meeting, or game, every day
after school during the three-month season. We also have games scheduled for Saturday’s, the
occasional Saturday practice, and fundraisers. By deciding to play, players are committing to
soccer first, everything else (other than school and family) second.

Concussion Testing. Date is Wednesday, June 7th, at 3:30. Players should plan on staying till 5:30 to
complete the testing. Incoming 9th graders will be provided with buses in order to attend on this date.

Summer workouts. TBD after discussing with seniors. Be on the lookout for this info.

PIAA Physical Packet. This must be dated after June 1 and athletes will not be permitted to participate
in tryouts without a completed physical.

Pre-Season / Tryout Information

Week 1: Tryouts run Monday, August 14th thru Thursday, August 17th / Friday, August 18th
o
Morning Session: 8:00-10:00 a.m.
o
Afternoon Session: 3:30-5:30 p.m.
o
Two sessions/day all week for all players. Players are not permitted to miss any sessions. Team
disciplinary action will be taken for players missing sessions and may result in a player being cut.
Please arrive about 20 minutes early for each session. Players should have both running shoes
and soccer cleats for all sessions. Remember the completed PIAA Physical Packet must be dated
after June 1 and should be handed in before tryouts or at the beginning of the first session
Monday morning. Players without a complete physical packet by August 14 th cannot participate
and will be sent home, no exceptions.
o
All incoming freshmen are expected to participate in the first week. At the end of the week,
some Freshmen may be invited to continue working with either JV/Varsity but it is our goal as a
coaching staff to keep freshmen together to grow as a unit.

Week 2 – Team building, Monday, August 21st to Friday, August 25th
o
The teachers are back in school on the 21st. Varsity and JV will therefore practice from 2:00-5:00
during the second week. The Freshman soccer team will not practice again until school begins.
o
During week 2 and week 3 we have two scrimmages.
o
Week 3 school begins. This is a short week because of Labor Day Weekend. Our first official
game is Friday of Labor Day Weekend at 11:00 a.m. against William Tennent.
Summer League Information

League begins the week of June 12 and concludes by the end of July. There are 8 games plus playoffs.
Target 11 players per team and we are putting in three teams. Two teams will play in the Varsity division
and one team will play in the JV division. The JV team will be made up of incoming freshmen only.

All games played at Valley Center Park turf field @ Lower Moreland H.S.

There are concessions and bathrooms on site.

The league fee is $325 plus $18 cash ref fee each game.

Total cost per team = $469

We also plan on purchasing team t-shirts. The total cost will therefore be $50/player for the summer
league and t-shirts. Please make checks payable to BHS Sports Association.
Expectations

Cultivate a winning attitude.

Sportsmanship is taught by example.

Expectations are higher for student-athletes as they are seen as a representative of our program as well
as our entire school. Furthermore, as a student-athlete you will have to make a commitment not only to
your academics, but also to the team. This is a team sport and this game is bigger than one person. We
win together, we lose together.

Parents. Please let the coaches, coach.

Playing a high school sport is a privilege, not a right. Negative talk about teammates in or out of the
soccer environment will mean loss of playing time and/or removal from team.

As a coach, I like to reward all players who work hard at practice with playing time. But the first priority
of the Varsity squad is to compete for the Suburban One League, American Division Title. Playing time is
not guaranteed. All members of the team have an equally important role. Reserve players must help the
starters prepare for games by competing hard in practice and starting positions will be earned. In tight
matches reserve players may be limited to no time or short playing periods to give the starters rest.
Other factors effecting playing time will be grades, injuries, and a player’s compliance with all team and
school rules.

Lastly, keep it all in perspective.
