What is Kodu Game Lab?
• A game creation tool which employs a simple visual user

Works on any Windows PC (XP, Vista, 7 and 8) and on
Xbox
Requires no coding skills
Available as a free download for PC
Costs $5 if installed on Xbox
Where can you get it?
• Go to www.kodugamelab.com and select ‘Download’
• Kodu Game Lab is a free for PC
Let’s make a game – you against
computer
• Open Kodu Game Lab
• Select ‘New world’
• Create a race track
• Add to the landscape – trees, rocks, hills etc
• Add 2 cycles - 2 different colours
• Add a line of code to make it move via arrow keys
• Second cycle follows a path (or WASD)
Making a simple game
• Add finish line using different ‘type’ of land
• Programme each cycle to be able to ’win’
• Add game description – instructional writing
• Add a countdown to increase level of excitement
• TEST your game thoroughly
• Add a few more features – health bars, obstacles etc
• Add sounds to the game either as background or events
• Play your final game – try someone else’s too!
