CORI Forms needed ASAP
www.westwoodbasketball.org
Forms must be completed prior to 1st practice
All Head and Assistant coaches will need to complete a CORI
background check
Must have 2 adults at all practices
Do not leave any child unattended following game or practice.
Be smart about coaching actions and know your players will take
on the personality of the coach. If you act like an ass, you are
setting a really bad example for your players and that lead to
safety concerns.
Step in if a fellow coach is losing their cool with a player, parent,
referee, or fan

WBA - Safety
 Mouth Guards
 WBA strongly encourages all players to use mouth
guards at practices and games. Coaches can mandate
this on an individual team basis, but the WBA will not
mandate mouth guards in order to play.
 Metro West and MIAA also strongly encourage the use
of mouth guards by all players.
Metro West Update – Key Dates
 Regular season dates
 Dec: 4th, 11th, 18th (WEEK 4 is a TEMP DATE)
 January: 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th
 February: 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th
 Play-off Dates:
 March 1st – 12th
 State Tournament:
 March 18th-19th
Metro West Update – TEMP DATE
 With Christmas and New Year’s Day both on a Sunday we would lose two weeks of
game dates.
 In the schedule, week 4 game will simply be a placeholder for the opponent.
 Each town will then have the option to re-schedule that game at a convenient time
for both teams.
 The game will be on the schedule from day one, teams can play that game as early as
November 28th all the way until Feb 26th.
 If a mutual time cannot be determined the game will not count for or against either
team. In some cases you may just decide to cancel the game and in some cases a
team would already be scheduled with a BYE.
 During these re-scheduled games the officials would only charge $40.00 per game
even if it was a single game.
Metro West Update – 4th Grade Placement
 4th Grade Jamboree will be Nov 12th and 13th (boys on Saturday, girls on Sunday).
 Teams will be giving a 2.5 hour block of time where they will play 4 22 minute running
time halves against 4 different opponents.
 No cost and no admissions will be charged.
 1 official per game and a site director to observe level of play and try to get a sense as to
divisional placement.
 Auto subs every 4 minutes.
 Encourage and correct players when they seem to be playing zone or double teaming the
ball.

Defensive Contact Rule
General Rules (continued)
 5 foul disqualification (technical counts as both a personal
and team foul).
 2 technical fouls: disqualification for players and coaches.
 Coach’s receiving a technical foul must sit for the rest of the
game.
 All technical fouls must be reported same day to the EC
(fine for coaches). If the head coach does not report, may
be subject to further action.
WBA Code of Conduct
 Please review the Coaches Code of Conduct
 #2 on the “Coaches shall not” is Question a referee’s
call. Technical Fouls will carry a $50 fine if the Coach
notifies the WBA EC w/in 24 hours of the game. It will
be $100 if the Coach does not notify the WBA EC.

Grade Rules
 28.5 ball for boys.
 Foul shots: Can step in 1–step (either to start or with follow-
through). Shooter cannot be first to secure the ball unless they
have shot from foul-line and did not jump over.
 Man-to-man defense only. No double teaming. First violation
per half is a formal warning, then technical.
 Press allowed in last 2 minutes of 1st half and 4 minutes 2nd
half and overtime.
 Double team rule exceptions:
 Help defense inside the 3-point arc
 Switching on a screen
 Offensive team cannot isolate.
Other MW Guidelines
• Zero tolerance for players, coaches, and fans.
• Coach responsible for fan behavior. Refs will not
•
•
•
•
continue game if inappropriate behavior continues.
All follow-up regarding opposing team, opposing fan or
ref issues, ref issues must be through MW coordinator
(do not contact MW administration).
Home team keeps official book.
Home coach pays the refs ($40 for each ref. $60 if only 1
ref ).
USE the ref feedback when you enter your score.
Remember refs can provide feedback on coaches
Cancellations
 If gyms remain open, it is up to the coaches to decide if they
want to postpone. Visiting team has final say.
 If the game is postponed, the coach must:
 Post online on MW website
 Cancel refs
 Notify opposing town MW coordinator
 Reschedule time with opposing coach
 Reschedule referees (refs will get $50 each if rescheduled as 1-
game only).
 Non-weather rescheduling can be done only if agreed by both
coaches (highly discouraged): only other option is forfeit.
 Non-weather-related cancellations within 14 days of game result
in $100 fine to MW, $80 paid to referees – total of$180.
MW Website
 Prior passwords should still work. Default password is
“metrowest” for new coaches.

If “metrowest” does not work, use the “forgot my password” link
to get a password.
 Update your roster as soon as possible (players are carried
over from last year edits are necessary).
 When entering scores there will be prompts to fill out a
brief questionnaire to evaluate the officials and the
opposing teams spectator behavior.
 Officials will have similar forms to assess the behavior of
coaches and spectators.
