Team Playing for Results (3 Aug; 2 Oct 2009) At work or at play, it is important to be a "team player." A team player works well with and is supportive of other people. Employers like it when their staff get along and still get the job done. We are all “wired” differently. Everyone has their own way of thinking and behaves accordingly. No style is better than another; they are just different. Find out your behavioural style and understand the styles of others in order to communicate more effectively with them. There are many things you can do to be a good team player. When working with others, be willing to collaborate. Think of ways to solve problems together. Do not demand that your ideas are used or that only your needs are met. While we know this “in the head”, in practice, it may come out differently. Learn experientially how to play to win.
