th 9 February 2012 Manchester basketball players get the ball rolling for Sport Relief Manchester‟s basketball stars join forces to bring some magic to Sport Relief in a dribbling relay mile! The Manchester Magic men‟s basketball team joined the Mystic women‟s team for a display of skill and agility that left on-lookers dizzy! The players showed off their moves, dodging, weaving and dribbling at lightning speed in a mile-long relay race to encourage Manchester to enter the Sainsbury‟s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday 25th March. The teams took some time out of evening training to dribble a collective four miles, relay-style, in their Sport Relief T-Shirts and Socks. Four teams raced up and down their 28m court, covering 57.5 lengths to complete a mile per team. The players were excited about working together to help support Sport Relief and there was a little bit of magic in the air during a quick boys vs. girls play-off, putting a whole new spin on „courtship‟ in the run up to Valentine‟s Day! Magic Coach Paul Middleton said; “The girls gave us a run for our money today and we all got a serious work-out! What a way to warm up for the Sport Relief Mile. Get your kit on Manchester and help raise cash for a great cause!” The Magic team were kitted out in XXL T-Shirts but they still looked a bit small on these guys, the tallest of them towering head and shoulders above the crowd at a massive 6‟10”! With legs up to their armpits, the Manchester Magic and Mystic teams should slam dunk the Manchester Mile in March. This year, over one million people are expected to pull up their Sport Relief Socks and take part in the Sainsbury‟s Sport Relief Mile to raise vital funds for vulnerable people across the UK and the world‟s poorest countries.
