Basic Concepts with Pictures

In this packet, you will find:
•  Game directions
•  Game board
•  60 game cards
•  Equal groups with pictures
•  3 groups of 5 = ____ (30 cards)
•  Repeated addition with pictures
•  5 + 5 + 5 = ____ (30 cards)
Other materials you will need:
•  Dice (1)
•  Game pieces (different color counters recommended)
•  2 envelopes to store the 2 different skill set cards
•  Scratch paper and pencils
Printing and laminating:
1.  Print the game board by itself.
2.  Print the game card pages double-sided.
•  I recommend that you test your printer settings with
a few pages to ensure that the front and back of
each card line up correctly. The back of each card
contains the answer, which is why it is critical that
both sides of the card match.
3.  Cut out all of the printed double-sided cards, making sure
to keep each skill set separate.
4.  Laminate the game board and all of the game cards so
that they will last you for years to come.
5.  Place each different set of skill cards in a different
envelope and label them as you see fit.

Object of the game: Be the first person to move around the board and
land on the “You Win!” space.
Get ready:
1.  Set the game board, game pieces, dice, scratch paper, and pencils
on the playing table.
2.  Shuffle the set of skill cards to be used and place them problemside up on the playing table.
•  Tip: For easy differentiation, you can assign your leveled
groups different skill card sets to play.
3.  Each player chooses a color counter to use as his/her game piece
and places it on the game board space labeled “Start.”
Playing the game:
1.  The player whose birthday is coming up next goes first.
2.  The first player will pick up the first card (without looking at the
back with the answer).
3.  The first player will show the card to the other players, and then will
try to solve the problem.
4.  After giving his or her answer, the other players will look on the
back of the card to see if the player was correct.
•  If the player was correct, he/she gets to roll the dice and
move that number of spaces on the game board. If the
player lands on a space with directions (such as “Move
ahead 2 spaces”), he/she follows those directions.
•  If the player was incorrect, he/she stays on the same space
and does not get to move.
5.  Now the player’s turn is finished and the next player’s turn begins.
How to Win:
1.  Game play continues until one of the following happens:
•  A player lands on the “You Win!” space. In that case, the
first player to land on the “You Win!” space is the winner.
•  The teacher calls time. In that case, the player who is
closest to the “You Win!” space is the winner.
Note: If the players run out of playing cards before someone reaches finish, the
players should shuffle the deck again and continue playing.
