Wisdom
• Knowledge that is gained by having many
experiences in life
• The natural ability to understand things that
most other people cannot understand
• Knowledge of what is proper or reasonable:
good sense of judgment
A stated purpose of this

Proverbs 4:5
(Good News Translation)
Get wisdom and insight!...
Proverbs 4:6
(Good News Translation)
Do not abandon wisdom, and
she will protect you;
love her, and she will keep you
safe.
Proverbs 23:19
(Good News Translation)
Hear, my son, and be wise,
and direct your mind in the
way [of the Lord].
Psalms 111:10
(Amplified Bible)
The reverent fear and
worship of the Lord is the
beginning of Wisdom and
skill….
James 1:5-8
(Good News Translation)
But if any of you lack wisdom, you should pray to
God, who will give it to you; because God gives
generously and graciously to all. 6 But when you
pray, you must believe and not doubt at all.
Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is
driven and blown about by the wind. 7-8 If you are
like that, unable to make up your mind and
undecided in all you do, you must not think that
you will receive anything from the Lord

the same Spirit gives a message full of
knowledge.

2 Kings 4:1-7
(Good News Translation)
1 The
widow of a member of a group of prophets went to Elisha and said, "Sir,
my husband has died! As you know, he was a God-fearing man, but now a
man he owed money to has come to take away my two sons as slaves in
payment for my husband's debt."
2 "What shall I do for you?" he asked. "Tell me, what do you have at home?"
"Nothing at all, except a small jar of olive oil," she answered.
3 "Go to your neighbors and borrow as many empty jars as you can," Elisha
told her. 4 "Then you and your sons go into the house, close the door, and
start pouring oil into the jars. Set each one aside as soon as it is full."
5 So the woman went into her house with her sons, closed the door, took the
small jar of olive oil, and poured oil into the jars as her sons brought them to
her. 6 When they had filled all the jars, she asked if there were any more. "That
was the last one," one of her sons answered. And the olive oil stopped
flowing. 7 She went back to Elisha, the prophet, who said to her, "Sell the olive
oil and pay all your debts, and there will be enough money left over for you
and your sons to live on.”

Those who have the gift of Wisdom know how
to get to the heart of a problem quickly.
Those who have the gift of Wisdom know how
to get to the heart of a problem quickly.
• They have practical minds and are problem solvers.
• They have little difficulty in making decisions because
they can foresee with a fairly high degree of accuracy
what the outcome of the decisions will be.

When those with the gift of wisdom speak:
• Other members of the Body recognize that truth has
been spoken and the right course of action
recommended.
• Formal learning is not at all a prerequisite. Long
hours of digging out new facts may not appeal at all
to those who have the gift of wisdom.
Acts6:1-5
(Amplified Bible)
1
NOW ABOUT this time, when the number of the disciples was greatly increasing,
complaint was made by the Hellenists (the Greek-speaking Jews) against the
[native] Hebrews because their widows were being overlooked and neglected in
the daily ministration (distribution of relief).
2 So the Twelve [apostles] convened the multitude of the disciples and said, It is
not seemly or desirable or right that we should have to give up or neglect
[preaching] the Word of God in order to attend to serving at tables and
superintending the distribution of food.
3 Therefore select out from among yourselves, brethren, seven men of good and
attested character and repute, full of the [Holy] Spirit and wisdom, whom we may
assign to look after this business and duty.
4 But we will continue to devote ourselves steadfastly to prayer and the ministry of
the Word.
5 And the suggestion pleased the whole assembly, and they selected Stephen, a
man full of faith (a strong and welcome belief that Jesus is the Messiah) and full of
and controlled by the Holy Spirit…….

Acts6:9-10
(English Standard Version)
9
Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the
Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the
Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and
disputed with Stephen. 10 But they could not withstand the
wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.

James 3:13-18
(Good News Translation)
13 Are
there any of you who are wise and understanding? You are to prove it by
your good life, by your good deeds performed with humility and wisdom.
14 But
if in your heart you are jealous, bitter, and selfish, don't sin against the truth
by boasting of your wisdom. 15 Such wisdom does not come down from heaven; it
belongs to the world, it is unspiritual and demonic. 16 Where there is jealousy and
selfishness, there is also disorder and every kind of evil.
17 But
the wisdom from above is pure first of all; it is also peaceful, gentle, and
friendly; it is full of compassion and produces a harvest of good deeds; it is free
from prejudice and hypocrisy.
