Figure Skating Club at Oakland University
Team Contract
PRELUDE
Skating on a competitive team is a fun but serious commitment. A team can only function well if all of the
members work together with similar goals and an aspiration to succeed. In a group atmosphere you have the
chance to share your love for skating, your creativity through the program, and develop long lasting
friendships. Skating on a competitive team requires dedication, hard work, self-discipline, and perseverance.
The commitment and work you put into your individual skating, your team, practices, and competitions are
certain to make this season smooth, positive, and successful.
PRACTICE
All members of the Figure Skating Club at Oakland University are expected to attend practice, arrive on time,
and be in the appropriate attire. You are expected to attend all practices; however, if you are unable to attend
a practice, you are still responsible for paying all monthly dues in full. If there is any reason a skater is going
to be late or absent for a practice that skater must contact the President and one of the coaches. A skater is
allowed to miss ONE practice with a valid excuse (e.g. Illness, injury, or car problems), per month. Any team
member with further absences will be charged $50 fine per absence. If a team member is absent from practice
one week before a scheduled competition/performance, that member will not be permitted to skate for that
competition/performance, and will be responsible for all associated fees. During practices skaters must be
attentive and respectful, and skaters are always expected to represent their team, coaches, and Oakland
University in a positive manner. Disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated, and could lead to dismissal
from practice and/or the team.
COMPETITIONS/TEAM PERFORMANCES
All skaters will travel with the team, and, unless there is an injury or illness or by direction of one of the
coaches, all skaters will perform. All team members, including any ill or injured skaters, are required to meet
on time wearing appropriate attire, hair complete, and make-up finished. Any skater that is running late must
contact the President and one of the coaches. During the competitions/performances skaters are expected to
support their teammates. No skater is allowed to leave the competition/performance until the whole team is
dismissed by the coaches. Skaters are always expected to represent their team, coaches, and Oakland
University in a respectful and positive manner. Team members are strictly prohibited from speaking
negatively about other schools, other teams, other coaches, etc. Disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated,
and could lead to dismissal from the competition/performance and/or the team.
RECRUITMENT
Recruiting is extremely important to the growth of the team. Without recruiting we cannot expand and
develop into the best possible collegiate team. This is why each skater is required to attend at least one
recruiting event per season.
FUNDRAISERS
All skaters are expected to participate in all fundraisers. If you are not physically able to attend the fundraiser,
you must assist in some other way.
PAYMENTS
Monthly dues will be paid to the Club Treasurer by the first practice each month. All skaters are expected to
pay monthly dues in full despite missed practices and/or competitions. All skaters are required to make
payments on time. If a skater does not pay dues on time they will be required to pay a $25 late fee. All fees
must be paid before the skater is allowed to participate in any events. For competitions, the first event and
the team event will be covered by the club. If you participate in a second event, it is $50, which must be paid
with the first practice of the competition month dues. In addition, all team members must be in good
financial standing with the college they attend.
SPORTSMANSHIP
You are always representing Oakland University and the Figure Skating Club of Oakland University, and you
are prohibited from speaking negatively about the club, its members, coaches and Club Officers. In addition,
negative or derogatory comments about other schools, skaters and teams will not be tolerated. This includes
comments made at competitions or exhibition performances, on the Web, online message boards, on
Facebook, etc. All team members are expected to be attentive and respectful to their fellow skaters and
coaches. Understand decisions may be made that individuals may not agree with, but are made in the best
interest of the entire team. Understand that one of the jobs of the coaches is to critique the skating of the
team as a whole as well as individuals.
QUITTING/DISMISSAL FROM TEAM
When a member of a team quits it poorly affects the whole team. It can lead to hardships for everyone
involved, and an unsuccessful season. This is why it is highly discouraged for anyone to quit the team before
the end of the season. Any skater that is dismissed or leaving the team before the season ends will be
required to pay the remainder of the money owed to the team for the season immediately. If extraordinary
measures need to be taken to collect the remainder of the money owed, additional fees/charges may be
applied.
ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES
Illegal substances are prohibited at all times. Alcohol and tobacco are prohibited while wearing team apparel.
