Welcome to the 2016 Insight Assessment Platform Pilot.
There are five essential steps required to begin the Insight Pilot, designated by user:

This set of guidelines is for Teachers and other system users to use to familiarise
themselves with the platform.

PLEASE NOTE:
You can use the Practice Space to practice navigation, test-taking, and report
viewing on the Insight Assessment Platform.
Any data collected in the Practice Space will be discarded.
Do not use the Practice Space to carry out an assessment with a student.

1. Logging In to the Practice Space
a) Click on the Insight Assess URL given in the email https://det.linkitau-uat.com, and login using the details
below:
b) Once you have logged in, you will see the Insight Assess Home Page.
c) Your login name (Demo Teacher 02) will be displayed in the top right corner of the page.

2. The Home Page
a) At the top of Insight Assess Home Page you will see a series of tabs. Hover your mouse over the tab to
see the name of each module. When you click on a tab you will see the sub-menu for that module appear
below it.

In Reporting you will see all of the available reports
for your class based on the tests you have
completed.
In Online Testing you can assign a test to a class or
an individual student, review and resume tests in
progress, and make changes to your online test
preferences.
In Test Management you can print a copy of a test.
In Learning Library you can view and download
additional resources (for example,
guides/handbooks/scripts) relating to the available
online tests.
In Data Admin you can assign your class by
importing student data from your student
management system. Note: this section to be
managed by your school Assessment Administrator.
In Help you can see further reading material relating
to the Insight Assessment platform and assessment.

3. Online Testing
Online Testing
In Online Testing you can assign a test to a class or
an individual student, review and resume tests in
progress, and make changes to your online test
preferences.
Beneath the main icon you will see the online testing sub-menu: Assign Online Test, Test Review and
Manual Grading, and Online Test Preferences.
3.1 Assign Online Test - Assigning an Online Assessment
a)
Assign Online Test
Click on the Online Testing tab and then the Assign Online Test sub-menu. In the Assign Online Test
module you can assign a test to a class or individual student.
b)
Select Test
In Select Test, use the drop-down menus to select the relevant Year Level, Subject, Bank and Test (note
that Insight Assess uses ‘Test’ to refer to an individual assessment tool, for example, English Online
Interview – Module 1).

c)
Select Students
In Select Students the Select Students pane select the students, teacher and the class with whom you
would like to conduct the assessment.
Note: Teacher Preview mode
Teacher Preview mode allows you to explore the online
assessment format, and functionality without recording
any data.
To explore using Teacher Preview select the Teacher
Preview option button and then click the Preview
button at the bottom right of the screen.
Using Teacher Preview allow you to explore the
options available in Test Taker mode.
d) Use Roster at Time of Test Taking
When the Use Roster at Time of Test Taking is checkbox is checked, Insight Assess will automatically
assign all of the students who are assigned to your selected class in Cases 21 to you and when you are
ready to Assign a test, their names will be displayed.
If you wish to assign a test to an individual student, or to a sub-group of students. You can uncheck Use
Roster at Time of Test Taking. You will see a list of your students displayed.

e) Select students
Click on the students names to individually select the students you wish to conduct the assessments with,
or Select All.
f)
Assign test
Once you have selected the students, click Assign. Insight Assess will generate a test code for the
assignment.
g) Test Taker
Insight Assess uses Test Taker mode to record online assessments.
If you are ready to conduct the assessment, you can click on the Test Code link to launch the Test Taker,
select the student and commence the test.
If you are conducting the assessment on a different device make a note of the Test Code. When you
ready to conduct the assessment, go to the Test Taker at https://test.linkitau.com on the other device, and
type in the Test Code to launch the assessment.

3.2 Conducting assessments in Test Taker
a) Select the student
When you launch the Test Taker, the Student Name list will be displayed. Click on the name of the
student you will be assessing and then click on Select to begin an assessment. You will see the first
task/question in the Assessment.
b) Conduct the assessment
The Reference section of the assessment window will give you scripted prompts, examples and
explanations relating to the question. The Task window shows the possible answers. When the student
provides an answer, click on the appropriate response. You will be automatically moved to the next
question.
c) Test Taker options
The icons at the top of the screen in Test Taker give further options in Test Taker. You can use Flag to flag
a question, Tools to change Test Taker preferences, Test Questions to view your progress within the

Test, and Submit Test to submit your test.
d) Submit Test
Once you have completed your test, click Submit Test
.
This will close the window and record your test as completed.
Insight Assess will record your test responses as you go, if you need to pause the test to continue later, or
in the case of a technology failure, you can simply resume your test from the point where you stopped
Section 3.3 Test Review and Manual Grading provides more information.

3. 3 Test Review and Manual Grading - Reviewing a Test
a) Overview
Click on the Test Review and Manual Grading sub-menu tab. In this section you can view the status of all
of the assignments you have assigned. This is where you would come to resume an unfinished test or
review completed tests.
b) Filter Test Assignments
Use Filter Test Assignments to locate a specific test.
c) Review Test Assignments
The column headers show you:

the date the test was assigned

the test name

teacher name

class name

number of students

the progress of each test (Not started NS, In Progress IP, Pending Review PR, Finished Fini)

assigned test code – hyperlinked – you can click on this to re-launch Test Taker and resume an
incomplete test.

3.4 Online Test Preferences – Settings and Accommodations
a) Overview
Use this section to adjust the preferences for your online testing environment. Explore the sections:
Security, Accommodations, Tools, Other. Use the Apply button to apply settings.
b) Accommodations
If your students are using the online environment directly, you can use this section to make accessibility
adjustments for students with additional needs.

4. Reporting
Reporting
In Reporting you will see all of the available reports
for your class based on the tests you have
completed.
4.1 Reporting overview
a)
Reporting HTML
Click the Reporting Tab and then the Reporting HTML sub-menu to enter the Reporting module. In the
Reporting module you can view reports and analyse the data you have collected during online testing.
b) Teacher Dashboard
When you enter Reporting module you will see the Teacher Dashboard. This shows you all of the
available reports based on completed tests for all your classes. You can filter your tests by Date, Type,
Year Level, Subject, or Class.
c) Summary view
The blue rectangles represent your completed tests. You can view the summary data for each of these
tests by dragging and dropping the test into the viewing area underneath the list.
d) Drilling down – examining reports
For the purpose of familiarisation, we will look at four reports on EOI – Module 1 completed by the test
class 6C6C:





4.2 The Student Results report
a) In the Teacher Dashboard, start by filtering on class to see all the results for our test class: 6C6C.
b) You will see the Class Dashboard for 6C6C and all of the summary reports for the class in the viewing
area.
c) To view the Student Results report for EOI – Module 1, click the
icon at the bottom of the EOI -
Module 1 Summary Report.

d) You will see the Student Results report for EOI- Module1 – Class 6C6C

Drill down – Student Reports
Use the drop-down boxes to explore from here. You can filter and print your results, or you can drill
down further to look at an individual student’s results.




To do this, select on the name of the student in whom you are interested.
Click the Student Reports button. You will see the Student Reports page. Explore this page.
Click the tick-boxes (Progress chart, Show test results, Show average scores);
Click the Sub Scores link in the EOI summary report for the student to see a breakdown of results by
Dimension.

e) Navigation – using the Breadcrumb Trail
To navigate your way around – use the hyperlink Breadcrumb Trail at the top of the page. The
Breadcrumb Trail will show you where you are as you navigate around the Reporting module. Click on a
hyperlink in the Breadcrumb Trail to return to that page. To return to the Class Dashboard for 6C6C,
click the Class Dashboard hyperlink.

4.3 The Class Diagnostic report
a) The Class Diagnostic report
In the Teacher Dashboard, start by filtering on class to see all the results for our test class: 6C6C.
To view the Class Diagnostic report for EOI – Module 1, click the
Module 1 Summary Report.

c) Drill down – Class Diagnostic
Use the drop-down boxes to explore from here. You can print your results, or you can use the View
drop-down to group class results by Dimension, Task or Questions. As you change the filter, the
additional information for the report will be displayed (for example, a list of students who missed the
question, the task mastery threshold).
d) Navigation – using the Breadcrumb Trail
To navigate your way around – use the hyperlink Breadcrumb Trail at the top of the page. The
Breadcrumb Trail will show you where you are as you navigate around the Reporting module. Click on a
hyperlink in the Breadcrumb Trail to return to that page.
To return to the Class Dashboard for 6C6C, click the Class Dashboard hyperlink.

4.4 The Item Analysis report
a) The Item Analysis report
Item analysis allows you to compare student results for a particular test, with other students’ results in the
same school or sector. To access this report you go to the Teacher Dashboard, drag and drop the blue
rectangle for EOI – Module 1 into the viewing area.
b) To view the Item Analysis report for EOI – Module 1, click the
icon at the bottom of the EOI - Module
1 Summary Report.
You will see the Item Analysis report for EOI- Module 1

c) Drill down – Item Analysis
Use the tick-boxes and drop-down boxes to explore from here. You can use the Show sector and Show
School results tick-boxes to see comparative data. You can print your results, or you can group by test
section. Click on the question number in the report to see possible answers.
d) Item analysis – Student Reports
To see comparative data for an individual student, click the Student Reports button.
You will see the Item Analysis – Student Report for your selected class. Click on a student’s name to
view comparative data for the individual student. Use the tick-boxes to explore from here
e) Navigation – using the Breadcrumb Trail
To navigate your way around – use the hyperlink Breadcrumb Trail at the top of the page. The
Breadcrumb Trail will show you where you are as you navigate around the Reporting module. Click on a
hyperlink in the Breadcrumb Trail to return to that page. For example, to return to the Teacher
Dashboard, click the Teacher Dashboard hyperlink.

4.5 The Student History Report
a) You can view historical results for an individual student using the Student History tab.
On the Teacher Dashboard, click on the blue Student History tab at the top of the page.
You will see the Student History page with all your classes listed. Click on class 6C6C to view all the
students in the class.
b) Student History
Click on a student’s name. You will see all the test results for this student.
c) Drill down – Student History
Use the drop-down boxes, option buttons, and tick-boxes to explore from here. You can filter and print
your results.
d) Navigation – using the Breadcrumb Trail
To navigate back to the Teacher Dashboard – use the blue tab at the top to click on Explorer.

5. Test Management - How to Print a Copy of the Test
Test Management
In Test Management you can print a copy of a test.
a) Print Test
Click the Print Test to print a copy of an online assessment. Use the filters to select your test and
click Print Test. You will see the Print Options screen.
b) Select options from Test and Answer Key and click Create PDF

6. Learning Library: Other Resources and Reference Material
Learning Library
In Learning Library you can view and download
additional resources (for example,
guides/handbooks/scripts) relating to the available
online tests.
a) Filter Learning Resources
Click the Filter Learning Resources tab to review the administrative documents for Mathematics Online,
English Online, DATE and Fractions and Decimals Online Interview located in the Learning Library. DET
resources are located under Content Provider – DET Victoria – Documents.
b) Select options and click Apply Filters. You will see a list of available resources.

7. Data Admin: Assessment Administrator Information
Data Admin
In Data Admin you can assign your class by
importing student data from your student
management system. Note: this section can only be
managed by your school Assessment Administrator.
Manage classes
The Manage Classes tab will allow the Data Administrator to assign and remove classes – this section is
unavailable in the Practice Space.

Help
In Help you can see further reading material relating
to the Insight Assessment platform and assessment.
a) Custom Help
Click the Custom Help tab to be directed to the Insight Assess Portal which is provides general
assessment advice and information. You will also find advice and information for
