Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School Summer Term May 26th 2016 ‘Learning Together in God’s Love’ MAY FAIR September 2014 It was wonderful to see so many of you at the fair last Sunday. There was an excellent range of stalls, the weather was wonderful and every-one enjoyed them-selves. All this could not have happened without the dedication and hard work of lots of people, so firstly a big thank-you to the PTA, who organised the event, (led by Mrs Twose and Mrs Morgan), secondly to all of the class reps and their supporters who manned the stalls, and finally to all of you who came along and supported the school on the day, or with donations beforehand. Your generosity is very much appreciated. The profit is currently £5200 which is an amazing total and our best yet. The PTA is very appreciative of this contribution and will ensure the children benefit when the funds are spent. The PTA has recently paid for additional books to supplement the reading scheme in Reception and Year 1. They will next meet on Thursday 15th June when they will be making final plans for the end of year disco for parents at the Thames Club. Have a lovely half-term break. School begins 8.45 a.m. on Tuesday 6th June. Year 6 Trip to Bude I have been receiving very good reports from Cornwall about the Year 6 children, who are enjoying a week of adventure in sunny Bude. They will need next week to rest and recover! Cafod Last week we were visited by a Cafod representative to collect the money raised by the children during Lent. Eden Y4 presented Jo with a cheque for £1120. The children were commended for their fantastic and imaginative efforts in raising funds for the East Africa appeal. Jo explained how their money would be spent. She said our school was very inspiring in the way the children rise to the challenge of helping others and she has written about us for the Cafod blog. Spelthorne Cross Country- OLOR Girls are champions Last Friday afternoon we sent our Y5/6 team to this annual event held at Echelford school. We went to Echelford school to participate in a Cross Country competition on Friday 19th May. When we arrived we ran out onto their big field and had a tour of the track. It was two laps and a mile long! After a warm up, the girls’ race started. It was hard work but we all made it into the top 20 and I won (Maddie)! We were really out of breath at the end. Next it was the boys turn. We got lined up with around 40 other boys (some of them looked very tall). Some of us stayed together and we raced off quickly at the beginning. It was a very quick race and such hard work. On the first lap I (Archie) tripped over and ran the whole second lap with my leg bleeding. It was so much fun and a very exciting afternoon! Thank you to Mrs Francis and Mrs Theophilus for taking us and helping out at the event. Archie and Maddie (Year 5) Year 4/5 Girls’ Football The girls from Y5 and a few from Year 4 played in a tournament at Buckland school on Tuesday. We went to Buckland school to compete against four other teams in a tournament. First we played against Buckland and Lauren scored a goal. Unfortunately the other team won and the score was 3-1. After that we played Springfield and they won 1-0. We were a little bit disappointed but our captain Lauren told us to try even harder for the next two matches. This worked and we won the next game 5-0! Lauren scored 4 and Brooke scored 1. In our last match, Lauren scored a goal and the other team scored an own goal to make it 2-0. Overall we came 3rd out of the 5 teams. We had so much fun even though it was boiling hot! Good-bye to De Lisio Family Sofia Y1 and Jasmine Y3 will be leaving the school today as they are moving out of the area. We thank them for their contribution to our school community and we hope that they will be very happy in their new school. Gardening Club - Wisley Gardens Competition The Year 5 gardeners have been planting their exhibit over the past 2 mornings at Wisley Gardens. The response to the competition was very good so there are lots of gardens to admire. Although the judges award their prizes today there is a prize for the garden that gets the most public votes, so if you’re in the area do pay a visit. Children from our school can gain free entry if they give the name of our school. Please see guidance note below from RHS: Half term week entry: For the entire Summer Half Term holiday (Saturday 27th May to Sunday 4th June) we are offering free entry to RHS Garden Wisley for all pupils and teachers/staff from Our Lady of the Rosary School. To gain the free entry, you simply need to give the school name at the main Garden Entrance and mention that you are part of the Budding Gardeners competition. However, please note that parents, family members or any other adult will be required to pay the normal entry fee. Sal’s Shoes Year 6 class reps wanted to bring to your attention the work of a charity which sends shoes to Africa. The website gives details http://www.salsshoes.com/toe-to-toe/ If you think you may have old shoes that you would be able to donate to this charity at the end of the summer term can you please let your class rep know so that we can gauge interest. I am happy for the children to leave their old shoes at school on the final day and go home in trainers and I will arrange delivery to one of the collection points.
