Rules and Regulations - University of Warwick

Active: Dodgeball League Rules 2016-2017
1. Organisation
The League is organised and run by Warwick University Dodgeball Club in
partnership with Warwick Sport. The Clubs have nominated Adam Bowditch to
run the league, the representatives shall be considered as the Organiser and
alongside the Sports Engagement Officer who will have the final say on all
matters of the league.
2. The Game
The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them
"OUT". This can be achieved by:
1. Hitting an opposing player with a LIVE thrown ball.
2. Catching a LIVE ball thrown by your opponent before it touches the ground.
3. Stepping on a boundary line without the permission of the referee.
3. Definition: LIVE: A ball that has been thrown and has not touched anything,
including the floor/ground, another ball, another player, official or other item
outside of the playing field (wall, ceiling, etc)
4. Boundaries
During play, all players must remain within the boundary lines. Players may
leave the boundaries through their end-line only to retrieve stray balls. They
must also return through their end-line.
5. The Opening Rush
Games begin by placing 3 dodgeballs along the centre line. Players then take a
position behind their end line. Following a signal by the official, teams may
approach the centre line to retrieve the balls. This action officially starts the
contest. Once a ball is retrieved it must be taken behind the attack-line before it
can be legally thrown.
6. Timing and Winning a Game
The first team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be declared the
winner. A 3-minute time limit has been established for each contest. If neither
team has been eliminated at the end of the 3 minutes, the team with the greater
number of players remaining will be declared the winner. There will be 5 periods
of 3 minutes and the following points will be attained after each period: Win =
2pts, Tie = 1pt, Loss = 0pts. At the end of the 5 periods the team with the most
points will be awarded a further 5pts – if it is a tie then both teams will gain an
extra 2pts. All points accumulated will go towards the league table
7. Time-Outs and Substitutions
Each team will be allowed one 30 second timeout per game. At this time a team
may substitute players into the game.
8. 5-Second Violation
In order to reduce stalling, a violation will be called if a team in the lead controls
the majority of balls on their side of the court for more than 5 seconds. This also
applies to tied teams.
9. Squads:
Squads are capped at 10 players. Teams will be made up of 8-10 players. 8
players will compete on a side; others will be available as substitutes.
Substitutes may enter the game at the end of each 3 minute period.
10. Disputes
Disputes shall be put to the League organiser and resolved (in partnership with
the Sport Engagement Officer) as this group considers appropriate.
11. Any cancellations, queries or disputes are to be sent to Adam Bowditch or
Catherine Eaton-Brown ([email protected])
12. Results
Both players should enter the match results on the Top Tournament page
https://www.toptournament.com/. This should be done within 48 hours of the
game taking place.
13. Conduct
Should a player indulge in any actions that are deemed by the organisers to
be detrimental to the good spirit of the ladder, then the organisers are
entitled to take whatever action is deemed appropriate. This may include,
but is not limited to, suspension of players, loss of position/points or exclusion
from the competition. Such penalties are subject to the approval of the
League Organiser, whose decision is final.
