Club Management
Describe the structure of the club in managing its players. Is there a single
registrar that handles registration and compliance management for all players?
Club Registrar takes the lead with assistants for the Girl’s U10-U19 and
Boys U10-U19. Boys Assistant (Mike) handles Spanish-speaking
registrations if needed.
About half of club registrations are done by players/parents online. The
other half use paper reg. forms which are manually entered into the
database. Likewise, half pay with credit cards and half pay cash/checks.
Half of all players receive a low income scholarship.
BHYS is unique because it is located in a low income community where
65% of the school children live below federal poverty level.
BHYS is unique because it is the most diverse community in all of America
as evidenced by 59 different languages spoken (2010 US Census). All
published club information must be in Spanish and English.
Key Dates - General
1. When do you begin forming teams? Who forms your teams? How many teams
do you have?
Teams start forming in July and continue forming until games start early
September. Players generally return to their Fall team of the previous year. New
players are assigned to teams by the Club Registrar often with help from
Assistant Registrars. BHYS had 42 teams last year.
2. When do you make your teams public?
Teams are “official” when Fall games start. Team Roster information can be
viewed by team families online any time throughout the year.
3. Any other pertinent dates we should be aware of?
Spring Soccer starts the first week of April. Roster formation begins in February.
Registration - Payment
1. What payment system/vendor do you currently use?
Frontstream Payments, Long Island City, NY
2. Do you like your existing payment vendor?
No, we would prefer a more economical vendor.
3. What payment options do you offer?
Cash & checks when using paper forms. Credit, debit, and checks when
registering online. Checks may be mailed to the Club Registrar if online
customers prefer.
4. If you offer the ability to pay by credit cards, which cards do you accept?
What ever is accepted by Bonzi & payment vendor.
5. Do you offer scholarships? If so, please describe the scholarship request and
verification process.
We offer scholarships to all families with monthly incomes below the federal
poverty level. We ask them to check a box on the electronic and paper
registration form indicating that they qualify for the public school free/reduced
lunch program. We offer to show them the federal guidelines for federal poverty
level if they need this information. No proof is required. We would like to add a
statement that applicant swears to the truth of their income statement when
requesting a scholarship, and that gives BHYS the authority to investigate family
income. A social worker screens insurance information on scholarship request
which generally indicates family receives state welfare of some type.
Registration – Pricing
We recommend your programs be kept to a minimum; this is a way of creating
charges for players. Typically you develop a program for each registration that
you have a different price for.
