If so, please describe the scholarship request and verification process. We offer scholarships to all families with monthly incomes below the federal poverty level. We ask them to check a box on the electronic and paper registration form indicating that they qualify for the public school free/reduced lunch program. We offer to show them the federal guidelines for federal poverty level if they need this information. No proof is required. We would like to add a statement that applicant swears to the truth of their income statement when requesting a scholarship, and that gives BHYS the authority to investigate family income. A social worker screens insurance information on scholarship request which generally indicates family receives state welfare of some type.
