CHAIRMANS REPORT Again I must start by apologising for missing another season with the club but Keith has kept me informed of what’s been going on mainly when he wants more cheques signing. Well done to everyone for all the excellent work which sees the club continue to grow and next year already looks good with money already secured for the allstars and the new development sessions and of course another 3 teams added again. Keep up the good work. John Pattison SECRETARYS REPORT This has been another very successful year for Westgate as we continue to grow we now have 11 teams playing in leagues and will be adding another 3 next season. As John has said we have secured funding to expand the allstars and also get the development sessions up and running but the biggest achievement this season is that after only 5 seasons Westgate Juniors have achieved Charter Standard Development club well done to everyone and now’s the time to plan for next season. Thank you all for your support Keith Morrice MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE Committee Members John Pattison Chairperson Keith Morrice Secretary Louise Molloy Treasurer Keith Parsons Coach Development officer Karen Hendry Club Welfare Officer Jen Hopton Club Welfare Officer Mark Howie Charter Standard Officer The committee continues to grow and is just about at full capacity which is excellent and will allow us to plan and do more. As well as supporting all activities the committee has been responsible for the organising of the Halloween and Christmas parties for the kids which have both been very successful. The committee also organised the fun day, presentation day and 2 fundraising nights as well as collections at the central station. Also the committee has received Grants from Healthworks Newcastle, Comic Relief and Schofield trust totalling just under £5000 for the Allstars and the development Special Achievement Congratulations have got to go to Becky Hendry coach with the girls on her achievement this year. Becky was awarded the Young Volunteer of the Year for Northumberland FA a fantastic achievement well done Becky FUSS Fun under seven soccer is exactly what it says football for under 7s that is fun whilst developing the individual player. This year both fuss sessions have been well attended and fantastically supported by the parents. This is also the starting ground for the young coaches for the club and thanks to Hattrick we have another great group of young coaches who will hopefully continue on with the club UNDER 8 Warriors This team has had a very encouraging season, for this being their first playing as a team. The standard of football these young lads have played has been outstanding. In the summer of2010 we arranged a couple of games before the beginning of the season. Not only for the players to gain some experience but also for the coaches to gain a little experience, as this was our first season at coaching a team. Despite two heavy defeats in these games the players seemed to learn a lot from these games and went on to have an excellent season. Myself and Graham also learnt a lot from these games, most of all how to field a team of seven players in a formation when you have ten players all wanting to play in the strikers position (a little frustrating at times) As coaches we are really looking forward to the upcoming season as we feel if we can keep up the good standard set this year and maybe improve a little it will be a very positive one for both the team and the club. Steve and Graham Wolves The first season for the Wolves has been a very exciting season as well as being a steep learning curve. Despite losing players over the Christmas break the team has rallied round and worked even harder, very quickly learning the value of team work. Throughout the season the player’s attitude and behaviour at training and on match days have for the most part been exemplary. All in all a good season and we look forward to building on a solid foundation next season Kevin and Felix UNDER 9 Warriors This was my first season as a coach at Westgate, which i really enjoyed, the season started off really well, in the pre spilt we finished 3rd ,in the Newcastle Minisoccer league then we went into the Gallowgate league which we did start off well wining our first 5 games ,then we had a little hiccup, but after that we finished off really well, finishing 4th ,but we did win the fair play trophy for the whole of the under nines league which I thought was a great team and parent effort. The season ended, and we have played in a few tournaments which was great for the team I am really looking forward to being their coach next season, hope all the players will stay as really enjoyed coaching them Graham Chapman Under 9 wolves fair play award Under 9 Warriors fair play award Wolves From the beginning of the season the Wolves had a rocky start losing 5 games in a row but after that they started playing more like a team and not as individuals. From the start of this year the team have been up and down win one lose one but the last 5 games they won all 5. Now the season has ended the Wolves finished 4th in there league which is a great achievement. The team were entered into 2 tournaments the 1st at Cramlington where they got to the quarter finals and the 2nd was a FA festival at Corbridge where the team won a fair play award so a big well done to them. With me being new to the club at the start of the season meeting the team from the start we have developed a good manager/player relationship which I think each team should have. We have some great players on the team and hope to meet some new ones in the future for another great season. Michael Johnson and Steve Jones Under 10’s The under 10s have struggled this year despite a fantastic start to the season with a shock win against East End in the cup but unfortunately that was the only win during the season. The good think about this excellent group of lads is they haven’t let their heads go down during or after games and have received excellent reviews from managers of the opposition. Next season is looking good for this team with a good group of new players joining ready to take us up to 11 a side David, Jamie and Eileen Allstars The allstars have continued their training throughout the season with enthusiasm beyond belief. Unfortunately they only got to 1 festival this year but with the support of the Hat-trick project and Hadrian school the club has secured money to step up the training for these lads and lasses and will be moving to a Saturday and expanding. Under 12 Girls The first season for WJFC u12 girls has been a remarkable success. Training under the WAGS and WJFC feeder programme at Murray house weekly on a Monday night bought about talented individuals with sheer passion for the game. Through the commitment of players and coaches a team was formed and entered in the 2010-11 season, playing home and away games at Complete Soccer in the Northumberland Girls League. The girls finished third in the league which is an amazing end to a brilliant season. The girls are now focussed in entering the u13 leagues which will see a transition to 9v9 playing on grass, and will be holding home games at Westgate. Whilst the u12s have been playing competitively, a WAGs programme has been running for u10s. This initially started at Murray House and has now moved up to Sports Centre on a Thursday night and we hope to enter them into the u12s league for next season. We are now in the second year of running girls football at WJFC and enter our third season next year. We hope to continue with the success we have had and are constantly looking for coaches to come on board. Anyone interested in support this work please contact Sima or Becky though Keith Morrice, club secretary. Sima, Becky Under 11 Well another season is over and what a fantastic season it has been, having been placed in a higher league than we should have been to finish fifth is a fantastic achievement. We also reached the semi final of the NACYP cup narrowly going down 3-1 to Blyth Spartans in a game where we pushed them all the way which led there coach to say “that was the hardest game they had all season” this just shows just how well the lads played. Moving from mini soccer to eleven a side is very difficult and I thought the lads might find it hard playing on a much larger playing area, but the lads made the transition with absolute ease. Some of the football we played this season was absolutely brilliant, passing and moving and totally overrunning our opponents, when theses lads work as a team there are not a lot of teams who can live with us. I cannot praise these lads highly enough for the way they play and I am extremely proud of every one of them Hopefully we can bring in a few more players for next season to strengthen our squad and then we should be able to challenge for the league title and possibly one or two of the cup competitions. Roll on next season, I am really looking forward to the challenge and I know all of the players are as well. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the parents for their support this year and look forward to their continued support next year, well done everyone Ian and Dwayne NEWCASTLE WESTGATE UNDER 12, SEASON REPORT This year was going to be a tester with some very competitive teams in this league this year with also 3 cups to play in as well. Our first game of the season was away to Cramlington which the result ended 5-4 to Cramlington. The following week we were up against a strong Monty team and a local derby to us and this also resulted 6-3 to Monty. With the winter closing in and the snow fell and stayed there was no football played and even training was hard to arrange as well. First game back after the snow was Newbiggin Hall and could the lads get their winning streak back from last season and they did winning their first game this season with an outstanding team performance all round. We were having a great run in the cups this year and a ¼ final v Grainger Pk away, with End to end football Westgate won with Brad Cunningham scoring with the last kick of extra time, and we were on route to a semi final against Monty Blue Sox from division 1. We played very well through the 1 st half then Monty got an early one after the break and won the game to knock us out. Meaning the only cup left was the NACYO cup which we were in the semi final off against Monty but this time it was the Pirates top of our division. If there was one game in the season you wanted all your players to be on top form form it was this one & it showed with a great result for us winning 8-6. So it was to be Ryton in the final at Benwell,Extra training sessions put on prior to the game and really getting the lads fired up for this one but wasn’t hard as all the players wanted this game so bad. Great football in the first half with Westgate having more of the possession then just minutes before the whistle Ryton got their 1st goal. Second half was off and back into it then after a CRACKING STRIKE from TODDIE we were all level 1-1 come on. With only minutes before the final whistle Ryton were awarded a penalty which shouldn’t have been which they scored from. Ryton sneaked another one as we were trying to push for an equalizer, we did our very best and enjoyed the experience of this big game with also a treat of go-karting and McDonalds from out sponsor the following week. The season was a bizarre one by beating the top teams and losing against the bottom teams. We were the highest scoring team in the league with 59 goals however we conceded 61 against us. The position where we finished could off been within the top 3 if we took our chances but with cup matches this year also we had a lot of games played and couldn’t fault anyone’s commitment on the pitch and off. I would also like to thank Darren for his support this year, the new sponsor’s futureline properties and also the parents who show their commitment supporting myself and the team. A MASSIVE WELL DONE to the lads who stuck at it this year and no matter what the results have been you have always done me proud and also played fair and respected others around you all. Thanks again Mark & Darren Under 13s The season started really well being unbeaten till after Christmas but unfortunately due to the bad weather and lack of games we lost a couple of players and never seemed to get back to winning ways despite playing some good football luck just wasn’t on our side. We still have a strong team and are looking forward to getting it right next season and pushing for promotion again Under 15’s report Another great season from a truly fantastic group of lads, after winning division 3 last year we knew stepping up to division 2 was going to be the most difficult thing the team has had to do over the years the team has been together. But in all fairness it did not show as we were able to hold our own in a very difficult division to be in. The season started well for us with us holding the lead for the best part of the season. We appear to always have a difficult run in all the cups and this year was no different having to meet two top clubs in three different cups one of which we met twice but in the second meeting of the two for a neutral it would have been a fantastic game to watch as we had gone down three goals in the first half but in the second half it was all to change with us coming out with heart and belief we started to pull back the game bringing the score line closer than the other team liked at 4 3 the game turned into one of them games that it’s all about ifs and buts, as we had a great appeal for a penalty we never got with us appealing madly they got their fifth. Well done to them though as they did in fact go on to win it. With finishing third in the division to two teams who in fact should never have been in our division our season also turned into ifs and buts. With hearing lately about teams folding in our division I am proud to see our team will be together for the start of the next, and how well they are all getting on, with losing three and gaining at least five here’s looking to next season! Another thing that has made my season a good one was I myself being accepted onto the Central Youth Division Committee thus making a change for next season ME being on the side of a disciplinary.
