6-8 MONTHS
BABBLING STAGE
Sounds occur in one syllable
Imitating some babble
Vocalising with familiar songs
8-10 MONTHS
REPETITIVE BABBLE STAGE
Greater variety of sounds
10-12 MONTHS
A variety of syllables are linked in babble (agoodaba)
VARIED BABBLE STAGE
Copies non speech sounds (eg. brmmm, woof)
Syllables are repeated in babble (bubbubbub)
Imitates consonants and vowel sounds
Attempts at real words begin to emerge (eg. mumma, dadda)
