Venue layout map will be available on the day for court numbers. Be early! There is a briefing starting at 8:00am sharp for all players and teachers in front of the tournament caravan. Whistles – Volleyball WA is not allowed (by Health Regulations) to supply whistles on the day, so please ensure your school or individuals bring their own. This is very important. Duty teams are required to referee and score. Teams not showing up for duties will be penalised one premiership point. Know where you are playing. The majority of your games will be on or near the same court. Balls – A Match Ball will be provided on each court. Teams are responsible for their own warm up balls. Once finalised please check your fixtures thoroughly : - Some teams have back to back games due to the number of games that need to be played. - Check the whole fixture sheet carefully so you show up for all games (and duties) at the right times on the correct court. Please be on time, accurate and above all – honest. SCORESHEETS MUST BE SIGNED BY WINNING TEAMS, THEN TAKEN TO THE COURT SUPERVISORS. ONCE SIGNED, THE SCORESHEET IS OFFICIAL. VWA WILL NOT SORT OUT DISCREPANCIES AFTER SCORESHEETS HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO THE CARAVAN. Teachers / Supervisors are ultimately responsible for the safety and behaviour of your students. Remember to be “Sun Smart” and bring water bottles, hats and shirts. Please make sure all students bring a packed lunch and water as there is no food suppliers at Inner City Beach. All players must wear a shirt while playing. It is preferred that they also wear a hat and sunglasses. Basic 1st Aid is available at the tournament desk. BASIC BEACH VOLLEYBALL RULES Taken together, the following rules essentially define the game of Beach Volleyball: 1. The lines are considered to be a part of the court, and a ball landing on the line is considered IN. 2. Service (must be by hand) is from anywhere behind the end-line. A player may not 'handpass' the ball directly off the palm. The ball must be tossed up or dropped slightly before contact. 3. The team is entitled to a maximum of three hits for returning the ball. A player can play the ball 2 times consecutively only if the first touch is a block touch. Block contacts are counted as the first hit. 4. The ball can be played with any part of the body. The ball can be touched or hit but cannot be caught, thrown or scooped in any way. 5. On winning the service, the team rotates their service order, bringing a new player to the service line. This service order must be maintained throughout the game. Players continue to serve until the opposition wins a rally. 6. Teams switch sides of the court during the match when the score reaches a multiple of 10 [for example 4-6, or 13-7]. This is to eliminate advantages caused by weather or beach conditions. 7. One time-out (30 sec.) per game, per team. 8. Net touches are not allowed at any time and immediately signal the end of the rally. 9. Players may step under the net to play the ball, however, interference with players on the opponent’s team is not allowed and will result in losing the point. 10. Setting of the service is not permitted as it is too open to interpretation and inconsistency. In Beach Volleyball, you may not ‘tip’ the ball with open or soft fingers. Instead the ball must be hit or ‘knuckled’. 8|Page VWA Alcohol. Think Again Beach Volleyball School Championships By Laws MARCH 2014
