4 YEAR OLD LESSON PLAN FOR WEEK OF 03/28-4/1/11
Monday:
What’s your favorite sport?
Introduce this week’s theme by having a discussion with the children asking them what’s the favorite
sport and why? Do they have a favorite team? Etc.
Paper Plate Skating
You will need two round paper plates for each child. Tell the children to put a paper plate under
each foot and use them as skates. Their feet must stay on the plates in order to move the plates
around the floor. Add music, give four plates to the kids and let them skate on all fours: hands and
feet or hands and knees and/or give the children on plate sitting down so they can try using only one
paper plate under their bottom and scoot around using their hands and legs.
Sports Match
Cut out several sports balls as well as athletes. Have the children match the balls with the athletes
that play it.
Tuesday:
3d Football
You will need paper, paint and shredded paper. Have the children cut two identical footballs out of
paper. Then have them staple these together and stuff with shredded paper. The can then paint the
football to make it more realistic.
Basketball Toss
Have your children toss a basketball into a small trash can or basket.
Shoe String Painting
Allow the children to freely paint using shoe strings.
“Take Me Out to the Ballgame”
Take me out to the ballgame
Take me out with the crowd
Buy me some Peanuts and Crackerjack

I don't care if I never get back
Oh it's root, root, root for the home team
If they don't win it’s a shame
For it's 1, 2, 3 strikes you're out
At the old ball game
Wednesday:
Karate Painting
The teacher will place paint on the children’s feet and allow them to kick a piece of paper taped to
the wall.
Sink or Float?
Observe different types of balls and then place them in water to see which ones sink and float. Ask
children open-ended questions to encourage discussion. “Which ball do you think will sink, float?
Why do you think so?”
Outside Tennis
Have the children play with flyswatters and balloons.
Thursday:
Over the Blocks
Have the children help you build a wall, then encourage the children to jump over the blocks.
Line Walk
Place a line of masking tape on your floor. Have your child walk on the
line. Try it backwards, hopping or try it your own way.
Water Table Fun
Add sports balls to the water table.
4 YEAR OLD LESSON PLAN FOR WEEK OF 03/28-4/1/11
Friday:
Number Bowling
I will bring in water bottles with numbers one through ten on them. Have the children try to knock
over all of the pins. For each pin knocked over, they will be able to identify each number. Continue
with each child.
Ball Painting
Balls provide a different tool for painting crafts. Place a piece of paper in the bottom of a shallow
box. Dip a small ball such as a gold ball or ping-pong ball in the paint. Place it in the box and roll it
round on top of the paper. The ball makes a pattern on the paper with the paint. Display the
pictures or cut them into different shapes to create other art projects.
Ball Sort
Sort various balls by size, texture, and color.
