Leading Change Through Communication: Strategic Use of “Old” and “New” Media About this course: “Leading Change Through Communication” is an online course offered by the Mid-Atlantic Public Health Training Center and the Johns Hopkins Center for Communications Programs. Public health professionals know strategic communication is a vital tool in changing health behaviors and improving the health of a community; this course will sharpen skills in developing communications campaigns to change behavior. What you get: • Four interactive LiveTalk sessions with faculty experts; archives will be available. • Ten online modules; time to complete modules and assignments is 24-40 hours (depending on assignments and campaign). • An opportunity to develop a strategic communications campaign with input and feedback from faculty. After taking this course, participants will: • Understand the ten key ideas of communicating for behavior change. • Learn the six-step planning process used in conceptualizing and developing communication strategies for communication campaigns. • Appreciate the implications of the changing media landscape as “old” and “new” media interact. • Have a strategic health communication campaign they developed during the course. DATES • • • Class opens the week of February 3rd, and will be 11 weeks long: one module per week, and a one-week “spring break” the week of March 10th. The class concludes the week of April 14th.
