Windows 8 Embedded Standard
Setup Guide
1
Upon first boot, once the initial configuration process has completed, the Windows 8
embedded thin client will boot to the screen as seen below: This is the Windows
Activation and will only happen at first boot. Click OK to clear the screen.
ThinClientUser:
By default, when you first boot up your new WE8 thin client you are automatically
logged in as ThinClientUser. ThinClientUser has been developed to provide the
network administrator a “locked down” user environment which has no rights to
install, create, modify or delete and is unable to create shortcuts and is not allowed
to run the right click context menu.
User “ThinClientUser” ‐ password “ThinClientUser”
2
Logging in as Administrator:
By logging out as ThinClientUser and logging in as Administrator you will be able to
setup install and configure your WE8 thin client for use with the “locked down”
ThinClientUser or any other New users you wish to create.
Note: Newly created users will not be locked down the same way as ThinClientUser.
To log in as Administrator, while logged in as “ThinClientUser” simply hold down the
“shift” key with one hand while clicking on the logoff icon. Do not release the shift
key until the logoff process has completed, you will the presented with a choice to
log on as either Administrator or ThinClientUser. Click on “Administrator” and enter
the Administrator password of admin.
Depending on your keyboards keystroke rate, you may find the logoff process
cycles back and logs in as “ThinClientUser”. If this happens repeat the previous
step keeping the left shift key held down and immediately after you select logoff
repeatedly pressing the right shift key while the logoff process is running. You
may notice the Windows sticky keys notice appearing, if so click No to close and
continue.
