MULTIPLE SPREAD OFFENSE By Paul D Hefty - 2014 MULTIPLE SPREAD SYSTEM DEFINITION: use of various formation alignments (backfield sets / balanced / unbalanced) to use one offensive system throughout – making best use of your personnel with the same core system, but providing different looks to the defense – creating matchup and number problems by using the various alignments with the same offensive system. DESIGN STEPS #1 KEY: use same spread system-terminology-teaching for all #2 KEY: determine which core offensive alignment to start the system from #3 KEY: determine the teaching progression for installing each offensive set *use any order you determine best for your people (players 1st – coaches 2nd) TYPES OF MULTIPE SPREAD SETS-OFFENSES 1 BACK – SPREAD OFFENSE O BACK – EMPTY OFFENSE 1.5 BACK – HBACK OFFENSE 2 BACK – REGULAR OFFENSE SPREAD OFFENSE – TRIANGLE DESIGN DEFINITION: 1 back sets and read plays using various combinations (3 in 1 = Triangle / 2 in 1 = Double / Drop back-Sprint-Screen Pass) #1 KEY: #2 KEY: #3 KEY: Triple and Double Reads Use Golden PAP as Hot-Crossers Can be run from 1 back (either way) – strong (Yrec) or open (Xrec) TRIPLE READS: pass-run-run / run-pass-run / pass-run-run DOUBLE READS: run-run / pass-pass / pass-run SPREAD SETS *1 back gun spread sets moving from 2x2 (spread or compressed) to 3x1 alignments Call: Ace Right (left) *note - “UNO” cues B(to rec) & J(to back) switch Spread 2x2 X Y *Auto gun *Gun = 2 hands on hips Z J t t Signal: pointer finger up t B Q t *uno = pointer finger down t t *note – “DOUBLES” cues Y flex out with H in slot *doubles = peace sign (2 fingers) Alignment: (2x2 set Rule) X-Z-B align toward directional call and Y-J away from call Oline and Yrec 1 foot splits (minimum) – 3 pt stance J&XRec MAX split (5yds from sideline) - Rec stance / inside foot back ZRec splits distance between OT and Xrec - Rec stance / inside foot back Bback align over Tackle / toes on toes of QB @ 5 yds from ball – 2 pt stance *Bback can use sidecar (align over Guard) for Dive and Power Qb gun @ 5 yds from ball – parallel stance with hands ready Compressed Alignments Can use with ALL Offensive Groups and Formations *note – “BONE cues Z& J both compress to flexbone note - *bone uses 2pt parallel stance (1x1yd wing) Call: Ace Right – Bone (left) Spread 2x2 X Z t Q B t t recs to compress *add - “SQUEEZE” callt cues ALL Signal: bone= hands breaking *squeeze = hands squeezing together *note - “TRIPS” cues Z and J to switch Call: Tri Right (left) Spread 3x1 Y Jt t Y t Z t X t Q B t to splitt out wide *add - ”FLEX” cues Yrec *note - “TREY” cues Y & J toward + X and B away *note - “TRES” cues B & J switch X t Y Z t J t t Q B t t *add - ”STRETCH” cues Zec to align wide J t Signal: thumb-pointer-pinky up *trips signal = tri upside-down *flex signal = arm flexed Personnel Group: Eagle (2 Xrec) Call: Trey Right (left) Spread 3x1 Signal: Ok sign (3 fingers) up *trey auto squeeze (1x1x1yd) *tres signal = trey upside-down *flex signal = arm flexed EMPTY OFFENSE – TRIANGLE DESIGN DEFINITION: empty backfield sets and read plays using various combinations (3 in 1 = Triangle / 2 in 1 = Double / Drop back-Sprint-Screen Pass) #1 KEY: Reverse the Read Progression on Triple Reads #2 KEY: Use Golden PAP as Hot-Crossers #3 KEY: Drop back Pass Rules for Bback as follows: 1.
