2019 Canada Winter Games – Head Coach Application
General Program Information
Canada Winter Games - February 13 – March 3, 2019 – Red Deer, Alberta
 Ringette Alberta’s Canada Winter Games program is designed to enhance the development
of Athletes, Coaches, Officials and Administrators and provides them with equal
opportunity to discover the great qualities of competitive Ringette in well-organized and
fair Regional Camps, Provincial Cup Competitions, and team selection processes.
Certification Requirements


Competition Development Certified OR Level 3 Certified (Old NCCP)
Documented Timeline & current/future registration plans must be shown for applicants
working towards the Comp Dev Certification
The above certification requirements must be completed no later than August 31, 2018
Qualifications







Experience coaching high performance athletes in a competitive environment
Proven ability to work in a Team Setting, providing leadership and guidance
Ability to work cooperatively with assistant coaches to effectively maximize strengths.
Consistent and Fair Coaching practices
Knowledge of effective and ethical player evaluation and selection process
Ability to plan and conduct on-ice sessions for a team of U20AAA Athletes
Ability to prepare and coach a team for a short-term competition
Duties
 Act as a liaison between the Ringette Alberta office, Club/NRL Teams and Team Alberta
 Maximize development opportunities for all athletes, coaches, officials and administrators
throughout the Regional Camps, Provincial Cup Tournament, Selection Camps and Team
Alberta preparation process
 Work with team staff to:
- Design and implement the player evaluation and selection process within the
Regional Camps, Provincial Cup, and Selection Camps
- Provide written evaluation to all players throughout the process
- Plan, implement and control pre-game preparation and communication with the team
- Design all necessary practice plans and coach the team during all games and practices
- Establish rules for the team and oversee the supervisions/discipline of the players
- Establish regular procedures to monitor the progress of athlete training
- Maintain contact and communication with club team coaches

2019 Canada Winter Games – Head Coach Application

Ringette resume, including previous coaching experience and playing
experience (if applicable)

Three (3) letters of support, which must be submitted directly to Ringette
Alberta by the author: one from your local association; one from a coach you have
coached with previously and one from an athlete you have previously coached.
Author are asked to submit via email with applicant’s name in the subject line.
Please provide answers to the following questions:
1. Please outline the selection process and tools you would use to evaluate athletes
vying for a position on the 2019 Team Alberta.
2. What do you think are the essential components of a successful team within a shortterm competition such as the Canada Winter Games tournament?
3. What individual player skills and tactics do you think are required to achieve success
at the Canada Winter Games? How will you develop/foster these skills?
4. What team skills and strategies do you think are required to achieve success at the
Canada Winter Games? How will you implement these skills and strategies?
5. The athletes on Team Alberta will all most likely also compete with a club team
within Alberta. The ability to liaise with these club programs is essential to the CWG
experience. How will you manage the requirements of both programs for your
athletes?
6. If you are not selected as the Head Coach for the 2019 Canada Winter Games, are
you interested in being considered for an Assistant Coach position?
