Common Questions about Setting up a Boccia Court

Common Questions about Setting up a Boccia Court
What kind of facility do I need and what size court?
A gym is the best, but any place that is free will work! A Regulation Boccia Court is 10 x 6 meters with 2.5 meter deep
throwing boxes. But you can play on any size of court. You can play on wood, tile, multipurpose carpet. – I have played
boccia in church fellowship halls, an auditorium lobby, school lunch room, tennis courts, and racquet ball courts.(almost
perfect size if the door is wide enough for wheel chair access)
If you are setting up your court in a smaller area - You only need a front line. You don’t need boxes. The V line can be
estimated as can the outside boundaries. The goal is any space where the participants can toss the balls.
What kind of tape do you need to mark the court?
We have used basic court tape or blue painters tape. Some facilities get fussy about putting tape on their surface.
Assure them the tape will not harm the finish. If you get permission, leave the tape up so your set up time is less.
How do I set up the court ?
The quick and easy way to set a court up is to use the “Ten Foot Line” of a volley ball court. A little more than 6 meters
wide and a little less than 10 meters but close enough for practice.
How do I make the V Line? Put a tab of tape at the 3 meter mark on each side of the court. Put another tab of tape at
1.5 meter mark up from the center line. From the 3 meter extend the tape to the corner. Do the same on the other side.
They should cross at the 1.5 meter tab you put in the center. Then cut and remove the inside part of these lines. You
have the V and you have tape that can be used for some of the boxes. See diagram below.
Mark at 3 meters on both
sides and at 1.5 meter
Extend the tape to the corner on
each side. Then cut the tape and
remove the inside.
When I don’t have any court markings, I have
a set of Sportime Roll out lines to make a
quick boundary. These are available from
