TOURNAMENT RULES ABOUT 9--‐11 Members on a team play defense at a time (11 recommended) Maximum of 16 players. All players can kick. o Positions: Catcher, Pitcher, 1 Base, 2 Base, 3 Base, Short Stop, Left Field, Left Center Field, Short Field Right Center Field, Right Field o Teams can determine if they do not want to play with a short fielder and/or if they only want to play with 1 center fielder 5 Inning games o 10 run lead ends game play after 4 innings o If the home team is ahead during the bottom of the final inning, that team wins instantly. o In the event of a tie score at the end of the 5th inning or at 50 minutes of game play, international tiebreaker rules will take effect. o International tiebreaker rules: The offensive team begins the inning with the ninth hitter in the batting order placed on second base. 1--‐hour time limit. After 50 minutes, a new inning cannot begin unless a tie, in which international tiebreaker will take effect. A strike is: o A pitch that is rolled to and across the strike zone and is not kicked and is not called a ball o An attempted kick missed by the kicker that is in or out of the strike zone A ball is: o A pitch outside of the strike zone as judged the head referee where a kick is not attempted o A pitched ball that does cross home plate on the ground or bounces more than one time on the way to home plate Umpires: There will be a head umpire and first base referee on each field and a field supervisor available Traditional rules, with ball tag out by throwing the ball and making contact with a runner that is not already determined safe at base. 10” red kickball OFFICIALS Games will be officiated by a head referee, who governs all final decisions o There will be a first base referee o There will be two field supervisors during game play on all fields Prior to each game the head referee will meet with team captain o Answer any questions o Ensure exchange of lineups o Identify captains who are only team members allowed to discuss calls with head referee Game play will be moved to the grass in the outfield if rain occurs. Game will be delayed if lighting occurs. Head referee may penalize a player, including game ejection for any reason deemed by the head referee. This includes but is not limited to un-sportsman like conduct, fighting, delay of game and excessive verbal abuse. Ejected players must leave the field area and cannot return to the game, but can return in subsequent games. Second ejections results in tournament ejection. PLAYER ELIGIBILITY AND EQUIPMENT All players in the competitive track of the tournament must be 13 years of age or older. Players in the “just for fun” track must be at least 5 and players aged 5-8 must have parent on the team in which the parent will be playing. Players can be male and female. Players must be listed on written lineups to be exchanged between captains of each team and given to the official scorekeepers before the game. o Lineups must be written in kicking order o A claim of improper kicking order is made by the captain to the head referee and discussed with the official scorekeeper. If an improper kicking order is founded, the resulting play is nullified and an out id recorded for “wrong” kicker Players should wear athletic clothing and athletic shoes. NO metal cleats. In case of injury, illness or ejection, a time out can be called. Once play resumes, the written kicking order will continue in the same formation, less the removed player. There is not an out when the removed player’s spot is reached in the lineup. The kickball use din game play will be red, 10” in diameter when properly inflated Base coaches may be at 1st and 3rd base, switching with other team members as necessary to remain in proper kicking order. Base coaches may not physically assist runners while ball is in play. RULES OUTS- “BALL TAG OUT RULE” • Three (3) outs by a team complete the team’s half of the inning. • Three (3) strikes, four (4) fouls, or fouling with 2 strikes • Runner touched by the ball while not on base & the ball is in play; • A kicked ball (fair or foul) that is caught in the air • A ball thrown to fielder touching base beats the runner who is forced to run; • A runner off of his/her base when the ball is kicked; • BALL TAG OUT --‐ A runner is ruled out when a player throws the ball and hits the runner, SHOULDER LEVEL AND BELOW. Runner may not run outside of the baseline to avoid a Ball Tag Out. FOULS/FAIR • A fair ball is: o A kicked ball landing in fair territory o A kicked ball landing in fair territory then traveling into foul territory beyond 1st or 3rd base • A count of four (4) fouls is an out. Foul balls never count as strikes • A foul ball is: o A kicked ball first touching the ground in foul territory o A kicked ball first touched a fielder or referee wholly in foul territory, while the ball is over foul territory o A kicked ball landing in fair territory, when entering foul territory before crossing 1st or 3rd base o A kicked ball outside of the kicking box o A kicked ball touched more than once or stopped by the kicker PITCHING/CATCHING • A pitch must roll on the ground when passing over the plate. • • • • Strike zone is 1 foot inside and outside of home plate. Bouncing (more than once) balls are balls. Umpire determines if strike or not. The pitcher must stay behind the pitching strip until the ball is kicked. Failure to abide by this rule results in a ball. No player may field in front of the pitcher other than the catcher, and no player may advance past the 1st--‐ 3rd base diagonal until the ball is kicked. Balls must be pitched by hand. KCIKING • A player’s foot or leg must make all kicks. • All kicks must be behind home plate. The kicker may step on home plate to kick. RUNNING • Runners must stay within the base line. • No sliding or running into a fielder. No contact is allowed…the runner is out if the runner initiates contact or runner is safe if fielder initiates contact. • Fielders must stay out of the base line. Runners hindered by any fielder within the base line, not making an active play for the ball, shall be safe at the base to which they were running. • No leading off or stealing. Runner can only advance after the ball is kicked. A runner off a base when the ball is kicked is out. • Runners may Tag--‐Up after a kicked ball is caught by the defense to advance to the next base. • Runners may overrun first base. • One base on an overthrow into foul territory. This rule is a restriction on the runner – not an automatic right for the runner to advance. • Running past another runner is not allowed. Any runner passed by another runner is out. PLAY ENDS • When the pitcher has the ball in control and on the mound. • A runner intentionally touches or stops the ball (the runner is out) • Interference is when any non--‐fielder, runner, or non--‐permanent object touches the ball. Any time there is interference, play automatically ends and runners proceed to the base to which they were headed. • Out of Play --‐ ball advances beyond out of play markers --‐ runners advance to the next base.
