Vets win the Neil Riley Shield
Congratulations to our Vets on winning the Neil Riley Shield. Taking on North
Brunswick/Rosebank CC, we were able to bowl them out for 151 thanks mainly to the bowling
efforts of Funky (3/17) and George (3/22). Robbo (40no) and Stewy (34) lead the chase at the
top with Damo (23no) seeing us through to reach the target with an over to spare.

Milestones for Waddles and Saif
Since our last newsletter, another two significant games milestones have been reached. Saif
Ahmed notched up his 150th match for the club and Adam ‘Waddles’ McLaughlin became just
our 2nd cricketer to reach 250 club games.
Saif has been a consistent and dedicated fast bowler for the club over the past 15 seasons,
collecting 269 wickets over this time include three bowling average awards.
Waddles was honoured with life membership a couple of years acknowledging his terrific service
to the club, and he continues to represent the club at First XI level. To become just the 2nd person
to reach 250 games is a wonderful effort and whilst 100 of his matches were played before
MyCricket was around, he was such a dominant junior that we can safely say he has racked up
5000+ runs at the club.
These boys join other significant milestones reached earlier this season by Max McKenzie-Smith
(100), Luke Petersen & George Tsilemanis (150) and Kris Marshall (200).
Firsts take the minor premiership
Our First XI have finished the home and season on top of the Mash Shield ladder. This result
means we host the Semi Final at redleap against Panton Hill. The match will be played over the
long weekend with Monday the reserve day. Please come down to support the boys, they’ve
had a terrific season and we are all right behind them.
Our 2nds and 3rds narrowly missed out on playing finals by just one win.
Don’t forget to purchase your tickets to the Senior Presentation Night at Epping RSL on Saturday
8th April. Tickets to be purchased by Sunday 12th March.
Three junior sides playing finals
We have also secured three semi-finals in the junior ranks. These matches are played on
Wednesday (8th March) & Friday (10th March) starting at 5pm. Our Under 16s will be at Lower
Eltham, the Under 14s at Redleap and Under 12s at Diamond Creek. We are always excited by
junior finals as it is a terrific experience for the kids and gives us confidence that our future
continues to look bright.
To hear more about how our junior sides performed this season, please get down to the Junior
Presentation night on Friday 24th March, commencing at 6pm.

Connor wins the Charlie
Our Under 16 and senior player, Connor Walsh-Queay took home ‘The Charlie’ for season
2016/17. Connor received 24 votes from his peers, just one vote ahead of Tom Stoneham. The
award is given to the player who best displays team values and culture, with votes being given
after each senior match.
The vote count was held at the club following the last round and was attended by a large group
of members who gave a tremendous cheer upon Connor winning the award. It was an
outstanding and deserving result, followed by a great presentation by our inaugural winner,
Grant Halton.
The Charlie is awarded in memory of past player, Charlie Elliott, who passed away in 2014.
