Vets win the Neil Riley Shield Congratulations to our Vets on winning the Neil Riley Shield. Taking on North Brunswick/Rosebank CC, we were able to bowl them out for 151 thanks mainly to the bowling efforts of Funky (3/17) and George (3/22). Robbo (40no) and Stewy (34) lead the chase at the top with Damo (23no) seeing us through to reach the target with an over to spare. 1|Page Edition no.1617.0 4 Milestones for Waddles and Saif Since our last newsletter, another two significant games milestones have been reached. Saif Ahmed notched up his 150th match for the club and Adam ‘Waddles’ McLaughlin became just our 2nd cricketer to reach 250 club games. Saif has been a consistent and dedicated fast bowler for the club over the past 15 seasons, collecting 269 wickets over this time include three bowling average awards. Waddles was honoured with life membership a couple of years acknowledging his terrific service to the club, and he continues to represent the club at First XI level. To become just the 2nd person to reach 250 games is a wonderful effort and whilst 100 of his matches were played before MyCricket was around, he was such a dominant junior that we can safely say he has racked up 5000+ runs at the club. These boys join other significant milestones reached earlier this season by Max McKenzie-Smith (100), Luke Petersen & George Tsilemanis (150) and Kris Marshall (200). Firsts take the minor premiership Our First XI have finished the home and season on top of the Mash Shield ladder. This result means we host the Semi Final at redleap against Panton Hill. The match will be played over the long weekend with Monday the reserve day. Please come down to support the boys, they’ve had a terrific season and we are all right behind them. Our 2nds and 3rds narrowly missed out on playing finals by just one win. Don’t forget to purchase your tickets to the Senior Presentation Night at Epping RSL on Saturday 8th April. Tickets to be purchased by Sunday 12th March. Three junior sides playing finals We have also secured three semi-finals in the junior ranks. These matches are played on Wednesday (8th March) & Friday (10th March) starting at 5pm. Our Under 16s will be at Lower Eltham, the Under 14s at Redleap and Under 12s at Diamond Creek. We are always excited by junior finals as it is a terrific experience for the kids and gives us confidence that our future continues to look bright. To hear more about how our junior sides performed this season, please get down to the Junior Presentation night on Friday 24th March, commencing at 6pm. 2|Page Edition no.1617.0 4 Connor wins the Charlie Our Under 16 and senior player, Connor Walsh-Queay took home ‘The Charlie’ for season 2016/17. Connor received 24 votes from his peers, just one vote ahead of Tom Stoneham. The award is given to the player who best displays team values and culture, with votes being given after each senior match. The vote count was held at the club following the last round and was attended by a large group of members who gave a tremendous cheer upon Connor winning the award. It was an outstanding and deserving result, followed by a great presentation by our inaugural winner, Grant Halton. The Charlie is awarded in memory of past player, Charlie Elliott, who passed away in 2014. 3|Page Edition no.1617.0 4 Match Results Seniors MASH SHIELD: Rd 9 – MPCC 0/98 def South Morang 97 Brett 60no, Sarge 35no, Tommy 3/11, Leigh 2/13, Nath 2/23 Rd 10 – MPCC 4/148 def Greensborough 102 Sarge 39, Tommy 31 & 2/33, Brett 28no, Azz 4/19, Stewy 2/15 Rd 11 – MPCC 6/200cc def Hurstbridge 158 Sarge 41, Nath 39, Wadds 31, Brett 27, Leigh 6/42, Tommy 3/4 Rd 12 – MPCC 113 lost to Panton Hill 7/114 Brett 56, Nath 3/32, Stewy 2/4 Rd 13 – MPCC 9/209dec & 0/31 def Laurimar 108 & 130 Wadds 40, Sarge 37, Nath 34, Azz 6/40 & 2/23, Tommy 2/36 & 5/31, Jacko 2/9 Rd 14 – MPCC 4/95dec & 2/60 def South Morang 80 & 73 Brett 27no, Tommy 6/18 & 4/12, Azz 3/17 & 4/36, Leigh 2/4 C Grade Rd 9 – MPCC 101 lost to Heidelberg 3/102 Rd 10 – MPCC 44 & 80 lost to St Francis 129 BVD 32no & 2/26, Saif 3/30, Boof 2/21, Matty Mac 2/21 Rd 11 – MPCC 124 lost to Epping 7/176cc Azz Culps 28, Matty Mac 28 & 2/30, Flynn 2/11, Boof 2/27 Rd 12 – MPCC 180 lost to Eltham 6/195cc Azz Culps 39, Bogga 28, Flynn 2/17, George 2/47 Rd 13 – MPCC 2/96 def Rosanna 93 Dickie 46no, Saif 5/19, Bogga 3/7 Rd 14 – MPCC 6/153cc def Heidelberg 140 Dickie 38, Flynn 27no, Stewie 25 & 2/31, Saif 4/26 E Grade Rd 8 – MPCC 3/147 def Lower Plenty 112 Cam 78 & 3/14, Aruna 5/18 Rd 9 – MPCC 146 lost to Lalor Stars 5/149 Max 57, Aruna 2/15 Rd 10 – MPCC 86 lost to Macleod 90 Sammy V 27, Aruna 4/24, BVD 2/37 Rd 11 – MPCC 202 lost to Lower Eltham 228 Connor 59, Matt Z 34, Ashish 24, Tim 31, Aruna 5/20, BVD 3/94 4|Page Edition no.1617.0 4 Match Results Vets Vets Rd 5 – MPCC 7/163cc def Camera 152 Johnny G 27no, Snoz 26, Kev 2/8, Andy 2/17 Rd 6 – MPCC 9/129cc lost to Preston Baseballers 9/130 Andy 3/11, Funky 3/13 Rd 7 – MPCC 2/216cc lost to Cameron 3/219 Borgy 43no, Snoz 42no, Stewy 42no & 3/29, Funky 29no, Stef 25no Rd 8 – MPCC 2/76 def Strathewen 74 Borgy 34, George 3/23, Andy 2/19 Riley Shield – MPCC 5/152 def Rosebank 151 Robbo 40no, Stewie 24, Funky 3/17/ George 3/21 5|Page Edition no.1617.0 4 Match Results Juniors Under 16s Rd 8 – MPCC 58 lost to John 2/0, Pravin 2/13, Sacco 2/13 Rd 9 – MPCC 153 lost to Connor 38, JPW 2/22 Rd 10 – MPCC 5/122 def Connor 60no, Ryan 3/10, John 2/8, Jarrod 2/23 Epping 6/79cc Rd 8 – MPCC 2/79 def Harry 39no & 2/10 Rd 9 – MPCC 5/125cc def Harry 40no Rd 10 – MPCC 9/192 def Harry 60no & 2/11, Wrecker 55no & 3/20 Rd 11 – MPCC 3/63dec & 3/50 def Nathan 3/2, Harry 2/12 Epping 6/58cc Rd 8 – MPCC 58 Rd 9 – MPCC 9/164cc Vith 67no Rd 10 – MPCC 73 lost to lost Riverside 1/175cc South Morang 4/232 lost to Plenty 7/127cc Under 12s (1) Rd 8 – MPCC 4/51cc Rd 9 – MPCC 68 Rd 10 – MPCC 6/136cc Grace 28, Aryan 2/2, Joel 2/11 lost to lost to def Rosanna 4/74cc Riverside 8/78 Mernda 78 Under 12s (2) Rd 8 – MPCC 7/65 Rd 9 – MPCC Rd 10 – MPCC 5/147cc Aadil 34no & 2/6 lost to Bye lost to Diamond Creek 2/153cc Under 14s (1) Under 14s (2) Lower Plenty 4/156 Lower Eltham 119 Laurimar 2/68cc Diamond Creek 90 Plenty 53 & 4/76dec Greensborough 5/151 6|Page Edition no.1617.0 4 Season Stats Seniors Most Runs Sarge 333 Brett 284 Nath 282 Highest Scores Sarge 102no Nath 92 Bogga 79 Most Wkts Tommy 52 Azz Mills 33 Aruna 31 Best Bowling Tommy 6/18 Tommy 6/22 Azz Mills 6/40 Most Runs Stewie 147 Borgy 131 Culps 131 Highest Scores Shifter & Borgy 43no Damo & Snoz 42no Most Wkts Funky 10 George 9 Stewy 8 Best Bowling Andy 3/11 Funky 3/13 Funky 3/17 Most Runs Connor 248 Naz 197 Wrecker 180 Highest Scores Connor 100no Naz 69no Vith 67no Most Wkts Jarrod 14 Wrecker 13 Antonio 11 Best Bowling Hasheel 4/2 Jarrod 4/9 Connor 4/10 Vets Juniors 7|Page Edition no.1617.0 4 Proudly supported by…. 8|Page Edition no.1617.0 4
