JUNIOR COACHING PROGRAMME @ WICKLOW TENNIS CLUB THE ACADEMY COACHES PROFILES ASHLEY WYNNE- (0879730926) Ashley Wynne is a licensed Tennis Ireland Level 2 Coach and is a member of the Tennis Ireland Coaches Association. She joined the coaching team at Wicklow in 2013 and has worked with the junior development squad since then. She has been coaching for the last ten years and has gained valuable coaching experience with the top coaches in the country. She has a keen interest in developing juniors technical and tactical skills so they progress on to represent the club in league and in open tournaments. Ashley also volunteers as the junior chairperson on the junior committee. Ashley is the current ladies singles champion of the club and has held the title for 16 years in a row. She has represented Ireland at underage and university level along as well as playing for Leinster at underage and senior level. JUNIOR ACADEMY ~ INTRO TO TENNIS STAGE This is for the 4 to 7 year old children. The basic tennis fundamentals are introduced in this programme. These will form the building blocks that will enable the children to learn the game. This is for the 7 to 9 year old children. Fundamentals are consolidated and scoring and match play introduced. Using the ITF Play and Stay Programme Serve, Rally and Score. Players learn the game by using Game Based Approach teaching methods. FUN CO-ORDINATION SKILLS AGILITY BALANCE SPEED *The players who attend Stage 1 coaching would also attend the FUN TENNIS events. INTERMEDIATE ACADEMY ~ LEARN TO PLAY STAGE Players will learn the basic technique of all shots and learn the fundamentals of the game. This programme is an important step in preparing the children to move to the yellow ball full court tennis. YELLOW BALL; Players will learn how to rally consistently and to win a point. By playing full court tennis they will be ready to progress on to the performance stage of the academy PERFORMANCE ACADEMY ~ LEARN TO COMPETE STAGE This stage is for players who have graduated from the intermediate academy and who are ready to take the “Next step forward” but not ready to take the big jump to the Development Academy. Players participating in this stage should have sound technique and have played tennis for a few years. Players will be assessed for Talent ID and get ready for their development squad assessment. Players ideally should have played in junior club championships and the afternoon tournaments during the summer. Players who train at this stage should be the best players in each age category. Players will be taught advanced technical skills and learn about tactical decision making. Criteria to get invited onto the development squad: Show a commitment to the sport and have good playing skills with sound technique Recommended by summer junior supervisors Pass a playing assessment by Ashley Players who train in the Development Academy should be: Competing in internal competitions Play Round Robin/Box League matches outside of Coaching Play Junior/Senior Events Play for Wicklow Tennis Club in DLTC and Leinster Tennis Junior League events Play for their school in the Leinster Primary School Event Make semi-finals in Doubles or Singles in Club Championships Phoenix event players Has a Tennis Ireland Pin Number
