Education Lottery creates online site for players called Lucke-Zone
RALEIGH – The N.C. Education Lottery will launch this week an enhancement to its website called the Lucke-Zone
to share news, information and special features with players of the Education Lottery.
The free website, scheduled to debut Wednesday, will work similarly to those operated by many sales
organizations, the news media, and other state lotteries. Players register for access and in return get e-mail alerts,
interactive features and more detailed information. The NCEL will continue providing news and information on its
main website, but the Lucke-Zone will serve those who seek a more interactive relationship. Features will include:
Surveys and polls where players can give feedback on lottery games.
E-mail alerts that allow players to customize the winning number results to the games they play.
Interactive game demonstrations that allow players to learn how games work.
A lucky number feature that allows players to enter their lucky numbers and get an alert if they are drawn as
winning numbers in a game.
News and information including a Lucke-Zone blog, videos and photographs, and listing of lottery events.
NCEL second-chance drawings in which non-winning tickets in an instant game can be entered into a
drawing for prizes.
“Like any consumer organization, to be successful we want to build as close a relationship as we can with our
consumers, the folks who enjoy playing the Education Lottery,” said Alice Garland, executive director of the N.C.
Education Lottery. “We’re glad we can offer this new service to our players and that they can use this to provide
feedback about what they like and don’t like about our games. We live in a digital world and our players expect to
have the same online relationship with us that they have with other sales organizations.”
Players must be 18-years-old to play the Education Lottery. Before signing up for the Lucke-Zone, members will be
required under the terms of agreement and use to attest they are 18-years-old. Many other lotteries already offer
online service to their players and features vary from state to state. The Georgia Lottery offers its Players Club; the
South Carolina Education Lottery, a Players’ Club; and the Tennessee Lottery, a VIP Suite.
.
Players will be able to sign up for the Lucke-Zone at the NCEL’s website, http://www.nc-educationlottery.org/. Other
ways to interact with the NCEL are on Facebook, http://facebook.com/nc.educationlottery, and on Twitter,
http://twitter.com/nc_edulottery.

NCEL net proceeds are used for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, reduction of class size in early grades, school
construction and need-based college scholarships. For prizes of $5,000 and greater, 25% federal tax and 7% state tax are automatically
withheld.
