TEAM VIC 13-19 YEARS MULTI CLASS CROSS COUNTRY
TEAM SELECTION GUIDELINES
At the SSV State Championships, SSV selects the Team Vic 13-19 years Multi Class
Cross Country Team (only) to compete at the School Sport Australia Cross Country
Championships will be held in Hobart, Tasmania from 11-14 August 2017.
It is expected that the approximate cost to each team member will be approximately
$1200 - $1900, which includes compulsory uniform items, levies, flights,
accommodation, transport and meals.
School Sport Australia Championships consist of educational and sporting components.
Being a member of a Team Vic (the state team arm of School Sport Victoria) State Team
provides an opportunity to be involved in an all-inclusive educational and sporting
excursion. All members of selected teams, whether students or team officials, are
expected to fulfill the responsibilities of being a Victorian Team Member.
At the end of the respective 13-15 years and 16-20 years 3000m races, the top 3-5
multi class students (determined by the Athletics Australia MDS tables) will be invited
to attend the Team Vic tent for a briefing, complete an availability form and receive
further information about the team, Championships etc.
The selection criteria process is detailed below so that you can understand the process
that will happen at the State Championships
SELECTION CRITERIA – ALL STUDENTS:
1. The Team Vic Cross Country team will be selected from the SSV State Championships
only.
2. You must be a student attending a Victorian school that is a member of School Sport
Victoria.
3. You must be at least 13 years of age as at 31 December 2017 and not turning 20
years of age in 2017. Ie Born in 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998
4. Maximum team size of 18 Multi Class students will be selected.
5. Athletes who have previously failed to uphold their responsibilities as a member of
Team Vic may not be considered for selection
6. The contact details of additional competitors will be kept as an emergency, in the
event of a selected competitor not being able to accept their place
7. Emergencies will only be offered places in the team if and when any selections are
declined
8. Team officials will meet with prospective team members and parents/guardians after
their race to provide them with information regarding State Team responsibilities
9. Each team member will be expected to maintain their regular training regime leading
up to the National Championships, and team coaches are available to offer guidance
if requested
10.There will be a Presentation Day to be held on Sunday 6 August 2017 at Oakleigh
South Primary School from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm. All team members are expected
to attend
11. The following will apply to both the boys and girls races in each age group
assuming the athletes has nominated the SSV team on the Availability Form, unless
item 5 applies
SELECTION CRITERIA – MULTI CLASS STUDENTS
1. The Multi Class age groups for the School Sport Australia Championships are 13
years, 14/15 years & 16-19 years (as at 31 December 2017) for boys and girls
2. All Multi Class students must have a recognized classification from either Sport
Inclusion Australia, Deaf Sports Australia or Athletics Australia depending on the
impairment.
3.Maximum of three (3) Multi Class student will be selected per gender per age group
13 years Multi Class
First three (3) 13 years Girls placegetters & first three (3) 13 years Boys placegetters
based on the MDS (Athletics Australia Multi-Disability Standard percentages) from the
results of the respective Girls and Boys 13-15 years Multi Class 3000m races at the SSV
State Cross Country Championships.
14/15 years Multi Class
First three (3) 14/15 years Girls placegetters & first three (3) 14/15 years Boys
placegetters based on the MDS (Athletics Australia Multi-Disability Standard
percentages) from the results of the respective Girls & Boys 13-15 years Multi Class
3000m races at the SSV State Cross Country Championships.
16-19 years Multi Class
First three (3) 16-19 years Girls placegetters & first three (3) 16-19 years Boys
placegetters based on the MDS (Athletics Australia Multi-Disability Standard
percentages) from the results of the respective Girls & Boys 16-19 years Multi Class
3000m races at the SSV State Cross Country Championships.
TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT
1.The team will be announced on the SSV website (www.ssv.vic.edu.au) after 5 pm on
Friday 21 July
2.An email will also be sent to team members with a team bulletin and a link to accept
your place in the team by paying a non-refundable $250 deposit
3.Due to the short timelines, acceptances must be completed no later than MONDAY
24 JULY
4.Once you have accepted your place in the team uniform ordering information and
raffle books will be forwarded to you
5.If any of these details change, you will be notified by email.
