AMI – Accessible Media Inc. presents the 2016 CANADIAN BLIND HOCKEY WESTERN REGIONAL TOURNAMENT Brought to you by CNIB – Canadian National Institute for the Blind Canadian Blind Hockey (formerly known as Courage Canada) is bringing the first ever Blind Hockey tournament to the province of BC and you’re invited to come participate! The inaugural Western Regional Blind Hockey Tournament takes place at the Langley Sportsplex on November 19 and 20, 2016. The event will showcase Blind Hockey at its best, with a three game series that is 100% free to come watch. The event also has a learn to skate and try Blind Hockey session open to anyone of all ages who is blind or partially sighted between 3:45 and 5:15 pm on Saturday, November 19. Registration is mandatory – form is below. The rapidly growing parasport of Blind Hockey is played by athletes whose level of vision ranges from legally blind – 10% vision or less – to completely blind. The sport uses an adapted puck that makes noise and is both bigger and slower than a traditional puck. The tournament will feature the home town Vancouver Eclipse Blind Hockey Team which is made up of players from across the lower mainland including players from Langley, Vancouver, New Westminster, Richmond, Burnaby, Port Moody, North Vancouver, and Abbotsford. Coming to town for the event will be players from the Calgary Seeing Ice Dogs, Edmonton SeeHawks, Toronto Ice Owls, les Hiboux de Montreal, and Washington Wheelers Blind Hockey Teams. In addition to Canadian Blind Hockey presenting partner AMI – Accessible Media Inc. and national program partner CNIB – Canadian National Institute for the Blind, the event is made possible by local hosts BC Blind Sports as well as a Hosting BC grant from the Province of BC through the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development and administered by viaSport British Columbia. 2016 WESTERN REGIONAL BLIND HOCKEY TOURNAMENT LOCATION AND SCHEDULE Langley Sportsplex – Rink # 3 20165 91A Avenue, Langley, BC Saturday, November 19th 12:15 pm – 1:45 pm – Game # 1 3:45 pm – 5:15 pm – Learn to Skate & Try Blind Hockey 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm – Game # 2 Sunday, November 20th 10:15 am – 11:45 am – Game # 3 HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE SKATE If you are blind or partially sighted aged four and up, you are welcome to join us on the ice for the learn to skate and try Blind Hockey session.
